The Watch

Here we have a 2022 Smiths Commander PRS-60 Automatic with a 38mm brushed and polished 316L stainless steel case, a subtle curve of the case leads to tapered drilled lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 44.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. Taking design cues from the Rolex "Explorer dial" Submariner Ref: 5513. On the right side, a screw-down signed crown with deep knurling for extra grip. The stainless steel bezel has a black ceramic dive insert with numerals coated in SuperLuminova GL Light Old Radium and a lume pip inside a red triangle at 12 o’clock holding a sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside above a black dial. An outer minute track has a triangle at 12 o’clock, 3, 6 and 9 numerals and batons in between all coated in SuperLuminova GL Light Old Radium for that vintage aesthetic, gold-coloured Cathedral hands infilled with the same luminance complemented by a lollipop counterweighted sweeping second-hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Siths motif and at 6 o’clock “300 metres” complete this vintage-inspired dive watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with a gold-coloured Smiths medallion in the centre, inside automatic Miyota Cal. 9039, 24 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, this premium movement has hand winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm stainless steel bracelet with screwed links and solid end links, fitted with a push button release folding clasp and a signed fliplock and the watch comes with its presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

Smiths are producing some incredible watches at insane prices and they are often sold out with a rush of collectors trying to buy them when released, this model was no exception. Often the discussion of "homage watches" comes up and everyone shies away, usually, it is followed by a heated debate... For me, buy what you like and if what you like is a vintage 3/6/9 Submariner that, even if you had the money, likely would struggle to find one, then snap this up and enjoy it!

The Brand

Originally founded in 1851 by Samual Smith where he made automotive dials and cockpit instruments. He transitioned into clocks and finally wristwatches which came to the fore during ww2. Famously Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953 carried a Smiths De Lux watch to the summit of Everest as well as the more famous Rolex. Since 1996 Timefactors.com has been manufacturing and selling homage and re-edition timepieces from Omega 300 to Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. They now own the Smiths name and therefore sell many models from Smith's illustrious past.
