Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Seiko box and paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original leather strap with its spare strap in the box. The watch is from Circa. 2022 and is sold in worn condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see. The watch comes with its original Manufacturer's Warranty.

The Watch

Seiko first launched Cocktail Time in 2010, it was created in partnership with Shinobu Ishigaki, who is one of the world's most highly regarded cocktail makers, and the owner of a bar in the Shibuya district, Tokyo, he has been featured on Anthony Bourdain's series, "No Reservations," his elaborate cocktails were the inspiration behind the original Cocktail Time watches, with their flamboyant and colourful sunburst dials. Here we have a 2022 Seiko Presage SSA392J1 that is a Limited Edition of 8000 pieces reminiscent of the dress watches of the past, combining the elegance of a refined cocktail watch and the modern sophistication Seiko Presage is renowned for. A 40mm gold-plated stainless steel case has tapered lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 47.5mm and a thickness of 14.5mm, the gentle curve of the lugs ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, a signed crown. The stepped bezel holds a box-shaped hardlex crystal which reflects in the same way as the crystals used in the past, the brown fume dial has an outer minute track with gold-plated dagger facet-edged indexes marking the hours. As you rotate your wrist the indexes catch the light in a magical way, between the 12 and 4, we have a power reserve scale with an arrowhead hand indicator. At 6 o’clock a date ring with the indicator needle recessed in the centre, elegant Dauphine hands and a long tapering centre seconds hand, give the watch a classic vintage look and feel. On the reverse, we have a screw-down exhibition case, inside an automatic Seiko 6R57, 29 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour, the movement has hacking and manual winding functionality. The watch comes fitted on its original Seiko 20mm calfskin leather strap with a signed buckle, plus an additional strap in the box and the watch comes with its original Seiko presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

The Seiko Presage range of watches offers so much value for money brand new at retail it is hard to argue with them, however, once they become pre-owned the value becomes even more undeniable! I wouldn't hesitate on this one if you are after a great-looking automatic watch that won't break the bank and looks far more expensive than it actually is.

The Brand

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established to make wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959). In 1956 Seiko launched Marvel as their first true in-house made watch; they continued to make this watch until 1959. Japan’s first chronograph watch was introduced for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; it was called the Seiko Crown Chronograph monopusher. Not stopping there Seiko launched Japan's first true divers watch the Seiko Diver’s 150M fitted with the automatic Caliber 6217 which later was given the nickname “62MAS” by collectors. The company name was changed to the Seiko Corporation in 1990. Innovation at Seiko continues today with GPS Solar watches.
