The Watch

Here we have a 2022 Seiko "5KX" Sports Green & Gold SRPD63K1 part of the Seiko Sports category, it has a 42.5mm Satin-brushed stainless steel case, and the case design is very similar to the now discontinued Seiko SKX model with its wrist ergonomics that Seiko is renowned for, at 4 o’clock a crown is protected by guards created by the case shape, a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a thickness of 13mm gives the watch a great wrist presence. The 60-minute unidirectional stainless steel bezel has a green insert with white numerals, and the edge is deeply knurled for better grip and has a satisfying click, a flat hardlex crystal sits above the jade green dial, an outer minute chapter ring with applied disc and rounded baton indexes gilt-edged and filled with LumiBrite marks the hours, at 3 o’clock a day/date window, gilt-edged Broad arrow and syringe hands are coated in LumiBrite complemented by a sweeping second-hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Seiko 5 motif with “Automatic” at 6 o’clock in gilt lettering which is a nice contrast to the dark green of the dial. On the reverse, a hardlex exhibition screw-down case back. Inside an automatic Seiko Cal. 4R36, 24 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. Features both hand-winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes on its 22mm satin brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed three-fold clasp and the watch comes with its Seiko presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

The Seiko "Hulk" is here! These "5KX" watches are incredible for the money straight out of retail and I often recommend them to anyone wanting an affordable and super reliable automatic watch on a budget, so when it becomes pre-owned like this one the price becomes insane... Just snap it up, enjoy it and wear it!

The Brand

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established by making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924 the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo stock exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959). In 1956 Seiko launched Marvel as their first true in-house-made watch; they continued to make this watch until 1959. Japan’s first chronograph watch was introduced for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; it was called the Seiko Crown Chronograph monopusher. Not stopping there Seiko launched Japan's first true divers watch the Seiko Diver’s 150M fitted with the automatic Caliber 6217 which later was given the nickname “62MAS” by collectors. The company name was changed to the Seiko Corporation in 1990. Innovation at Seiko continues today with GPS Solar watches and others.
