The Watch

Here we have a 2022 Ophion Gilt Spectre Limited Edition of 40 made in collaboration with The Limited Edition, established in 2015 by Pietro Tomajer, they offer a selection of the world's master watchmaker's timepieces under one roof; they are AHCI’s official partners and The Horophile a Swiss-based watch blog by Amr Sindi with a thriving community of watch collectors and enthusiasts. The curvaceous 39mm bead blasted Grade 5 Titanium case, made by the legendary Kari Voutilainen’s Cattin company, curves over your wrist with distinctive individually welded tapered teardrop-shaped lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 46.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a large crown with deep knurling for extra grip. A smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides, above a striking Anthracite grey vertically-grained brushed dial, an outer laser-cut minute chapter ring sits proud of the dial surrounding Gilt Breguet-style numerals that appear to float above the dial, a centre ring has the Ophion motif at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock respectively, Gilt Vélos skeletonised hands majestically sit in the centre complemented by a “T” tapered sweeping second hand. On the reverse a sapphire crystal exhibition case back showcasing a Manual Wound calibre by MHVJ and Soprod, a Twin Barrel movement giving it an impressive 5-day power reserve, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, disassembled by Ophion who then made custom bridges and decorated them in the manner of old pocket watches using hammering effect by hand and machine polishing on the edges. The watch comes paired on its 20mm grey suede strap with a pin buckle plus an additional 20mm leather strap, and the watch comes with its Ophion presentation box, watch roll and paperwork.

Personal Note

It's not often I get the chance to handle an Ophion, never mind bringing one of the most sought-after models to market, what a treat this is! Case made by Kari Voutilainen’s Cattin company, 5-day manually wound movement with a unique finish, incredible dial that catches the light and offers a unique perspective each time you look at your wrist... I truly could go on, so snap this gem up before the chance goes and who knows how long it will be for another to come to market with only 40 ever made!

The Brand

Ophion was founded in 2014 by Miguel Morales Ribas, an avid watch collector, based in Madrid, Spain. Their watches are inspired by Horology powerhouses such as F.P. Journe, Ferrier or Voutilainen, taking the design cues from 17th and 18th-century timepieces. Designed in Spain with Swiss movements, German-made parts and Spanish flare.
