Here we have a 2022 Nivada Grenchen Datomaster Mecaquartz, a reissue of the Datamaster, reference number 4368, released in the 1960s, which housed a Valjoux 7734. The watch features a 36mm polished and brushed round stainless steel case that curves over your wrist thanks to the tapered, drilled, flat-ended lugs. Its curved brushed flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 12mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side, we have polished piston chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre, with knurling for grip. The thin, polished, and smooth bezel holds a domed K1 mineral crystal above a striking, crisp matte white bi-compax panda dial. An outer minute track is precisely executed, surrounding applied baton indexes with a thick black line down their centre; at 3 o’clock we have a 24-hour register highlighted in orange with a white stick hand; at 6 o’clock a framed colour-matched date window and finally at 6 o’clock a running seconds register with a white stick hand, at noon we have the Nivada motif. At 6 o’clock, “Datomaster” completes this vintage-inspired chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down solid case back engraved with the details of the watch around its edge and the Nivada motif in the centre. Inside a MecaQuartz Seiko VK64, which is both mechanical and battery-driven, giving the chronograph a satisfying mechanical reset. It comes paired with its 20mm leather strap and pin buckle. The watch comes with its Nivada presentation box, swing tag and paperwork.
