A 2022 Junghans Form A Titan Black Dial, a modern interpretation of German design that blends Bauhaus-inspired simplicity with contemporary materials and everyday practicality. Crafted from lightweight Grade 2 titanium, the case feels remarkably comfortable on the wrist while maintaining a purposeful, technical character that sets it apart from more traditional dress watches. The dished matte-black dial adds an unexpected sense of depth, enhanced by subtle brown accents that bring warmth to the otherwise monochromatic design. Powered by the proven ETA-based J800.2 automatic movement and finished with Junghans' signature attention to detail, the Form A Titan is a thoughtful and understated watch that perfectly balances minimalist aesthetics with real-world usability.

Description

Here we have a 2022 Junghans 'Form A Titan' Black Dial. Released as a progressive lean into technical materials within the brand's minimalist landscape, it was produced to inject a rugged, lightweight utility into the celebrated Form lineup. This distinctive timepiece features a 40mm bead-blasted Grade 2 titanium case with a skin-friendly, darkened matte finish. The round case architecture features a clever kettle-shaped silhouette with a thin bezel and hidden lugs tucked neatly underneath, offering a highly compact lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a slender thickness of 10.5mm for a powerful, featherlight presence on the wrist. A signed pull-out crown. The standout feature of this model is its multi-level, dished matte-black dial, which uses a concave profile to emphasise structural depth. The layout features a clean, practical configuration: a brown-accented minute track, printed white Arabic numerals, a discreet, colour-matched date window at 3 o'clock, and warm brown accents marking five-second intervals on the minute scale. Unique rectangular hands and the dial digits are filled with premium, environmentally friendly Super-LumiNova for sharp legibility in dark environments. Protecting this Bauhaus-enfused design is a flat sapphire crystal that extends right to the edge of the case. On the reverse, a screw-fastened exhibition caseback fitted with a distinct tinted, smoked mineral crystal. Inside beats the proprietary Swiss-made automatic Calibre ETA 2824-2 (utilised as the Junghans J800.2 basis). This customised 25-jewel mechanical calibre operates at a high-beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, featuring an Elaboré finish, Incabloc shock protection, and a custom-branded central rotor. The watch comes with a 21mm brown buffalo leather strap with a black lining, tapering to a branded titanium pin buckle.

Personal Note

The more time I spend with Junghans, the more I appreciate just how good their design language is, and this Form A Titan is a fantastic example. The dial is particularly impressive, with a surprising amount of depth created by its dished construction. It’s one of those watches that looks simple at first glance, but the closer you look, the more details reveal themselves. What really stands out, though, is the fit and feel on the wrist. The titanium case makes it incredibly light, while the compact lug-to-lug and hidden lugs allow it to wear exceptionally well. It's one of those watches you can put on in the morning and completely forget you're wearing. I would not hesitate to add this brilliant watch to your collection today!

About Junghans

Junghans was founded in Schramberg, Germany, by Erhard Junghans and his brother-in-law Jakob Zeller-Tobler in 1861. Originally named Junghans and Tobler, their first watches were produced in 1866. Shortly afterwards, Ernard passed away, leaving the company to his wife and his two sons, Erhard Jr and Arthur Junghans. Arthur spent a lot of time in America, taking inspiration from there. The famous Junghans star Trademark started life as a 5-point star in 1888, and then it was changed to an 8-point star in 1890. In 1903, Junghans was the world's largest watch factory, producing an incredible 3 million watches a year. By 1930, they were producing their movements. In 1956, they were taken over by the Diehl Group, producing, in collaboration with the Swiss artist Max Bill, watches and wall clocks. During the Quartz revolution of the 1970s, they produced the first German quartz wristwatch, the Astro-Quartz. Innovation has always been Junghans' strength. In 2000, Junghans was taken over a second time by EganaGoldpfeil Holding. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out well and in 2008, the company was sold to Hans Jochem Steim, a freeman of the city of Schramberg and his son Hannes Steim, after the mayor of Schramberg asked if they would be interested in saving Junghans. The brand was split into two collections, Junghans and Max Bill. In 2011, they celebrated their 150th Anniversary.
