A 2021 Isotope Hydrium X “Will Return”, one of just 100 pieces produced, is a wonderfully unconventional take on the modern dive watch. Inspired by the familiar clock signs hanging in New York shop windows, its playful design combines a full-lume white dial, bold typography and vibrant red hands within Isotope’s sculptural 40mm micro-blasted case. Beneath the quirky aesthetic sits a seriously capable watch, offering 300 metres of water resistance, a sapphire dive bezel and automatic Landeron movement. GPHG-nominated and complete with its original box, “Will Return” sign, paperwork and extras, this is a rare and characterful independent watch that perfectly demonstrates Isotope’s refreshingly original approach to design.

Description

Here we have a 2021 Isotope Hydrium X "Will Return" Limited Edition 40mm (Ref. 6HXSSWR22-S). This rare timepiece is limited to just 100 pieces worldwide. This distinctive watch's design draws inspiration from the iconic clock door signs frequently found hanging in New York shop windows, brilliantly translating a playful retail motif into a high-quality tool watch. The 40mm machined and micro-blasted 316L stainless steel case curves over your wrist, featuring a unique, raw grey appearance inspired by the fluid lines of the Streamline Moderne era. A lug-to-lug length of 48mm and a case thickness of 15mm (including its heavily domed crystal) give the watch an incredibly distinct and sculptural presence on the wrist. Down the right side, a substantial signed screw-down crown ensures robust water resistance. The characteristic 120-click unidirectional rotating bezel features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal insert in light blue, precisely executed with Isotope's signature "Lacrima" teardrop shape at the 12 o’clock marker. The double-domed sapphire crystal, fortified with multiple layers of anti-reflective coating on the inside, is set above a stark white dial completely filled with Super-LumiNova for absolute visibility in low light. An inner railway minute track is precisely marked, complemented by bold, black Arabic numerals that mirror the typography of the classic storefront sign. Sacrificing a date window for absolute visual symmetry, the dial features a striking handset: the vibrant red hour and minute hands are custom-shaped like fluid water droplets, while a small, teardrop-shaped central running seconds hand continuously sweeps. At noon, the stylised Isotope logo seamlessly integrates into the clock-face design. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back reveals a beautifully decorated heartbeat while securing a professional depth rating of 300 metres (30 ATM). Inside beats an automatic Landeron movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) across 25 jewels, and providing a reliable 40-hour power reserve. This highly distinct, GPHG-nominated reference comes paired with a premium 22mm quick-release FKM Tropic-type rubber strap featuring a signed, matching micro-blasted stainless steel buckle. This watch is sold with its original Isotope box, Will Return sign, paperwork and Extras.

Personal Note

This is exactly the sort of watch that reminds you the hobby doesn’t always have to be so serious! The “Will Return” concept is fun, instantly recognisable and, importantly, has been translated into a genuinely great-looking watch rather than feeling like a novelty. The full-lume dial is particularly brilliant and completely transforms once the lights go down, while the red hands and light blue bezel give it even more personality. At 40mm with a 48mm lug-to-lug, the proportions work really well on the wrist too. Add in 300 metres of water resistance and only 100 pieces produced, and there’s actually a very capable little dive watch underneath all that fun. Snap it up and add it to your collection today!

About Isotope

José and Joana Miranda founded Isotope in 2016. Based in England, their brand name is derived from the scientific term for radioelements with unique half-lives, coined by radiochemist Frederick Soddy. Its meaning is "coming from the same place" in Greek. The word "isotope " was suggested by a close friend of his wife, Dr Margaret Todd, at a dinner party in Glasgow in 1913, and was first published in "Nature" that year. He was later, in 1921, awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. They produce uniquely designed timepieces using traditional techniques such as enamelling and thermal heating metals.
