The Watch
Here we have a 2022 Doxa SUB 600T Sharkhunter 862.10.101.10 with a 40mm 316L tonneau-shaped stainless steel case with a polished chamfered edge running around the top side leading to the flat-ended lugs, brushed sides have a lug-to-lug length of 47.5mm and a case thickness of 14mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side at 4 o’clock a signed screw-down crown and a sand-blasted patented unidirectional bezel has the U.S. Navy no decompression scales, with an outer depth scale in orange numerals and the 60-minute scale in black numerals, to allow divers to gauge how much air was left in their tanks. The sapphire crystal sits above a matte black dial, an outer minute track has applied Super-LumiNova coated pips and distinctive shark tooth indexes at 12, 3, 6 and 9 mark the hours, at 3 o’clock a framed date window. Large sword hands with an orange minute hand and white hour hand are complemented by a white counterweighted sweeping second hand, at 4 o’clock we have “SUB 600T Sharkhunter” and in the upper left the Doxa motif. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the DOXA motif in bas-relief in the centre, inside an automatic Sellita SW200, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on a chunky 20mm DOXA 316L stainless steel bracelet with brushed and polished finishing, secured with screws and has a folding signed clasp with a dive extension, all links provided and the watch also comes with its Doxa presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
With a name like "Sharkhunter" I think we can all agree you go anywhere and do anything with this watch and it will undoubtedly survive, I suspect Doxa would even challenge you to that statement and truly test it! Though, I wouldn't recommend hunting sharks in general, even with this watch strapped to the wrist.
The Brand
Doxa was established in 1889 in Le Locle Switzerland by Georges Ducommun. In 1921 Doxa became the supplier of dash clocks to Bugatti. In 1925 Georges became the vice president of the Swiss Horology Society. 1936 saw Georges' passing and the company was now in the hands of son-in-law Jaques Nardin the grandson of Ulysse Nardin. In 1944 the company was renamed “Manufacture des Montre DOXA”. The company was finally sold in 1997 to the Jenny family, transferring their headquarters to Bienne Switzerland.
