The Watch
Here we have a 2022 Citizen Promaster Automatic Diver NY0040-09E with a 41.5mm stainless steel case that has polished and brushed surfaces that transition with crisp lines, a lug-to-lug length of 47.5mm, and a case thickness of 12.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the left side at the 8 o’clock position we have a signed screw-down crown, protected by crown guards. The brushed stainless steel dive bezel has deep knurling in sections for extra grip a black 60-minute scale in silver numerals which is easy to read, the flat mineral crystal sits above a black dial. An outer minute chapter ring with applied disc and trapezoid indexes coated luminescence marks the hours, at 3 o’clock a day date framed window, broad arrow hands are coated in the same luminescence complemented by a reverse lollipop tapered second-hand, at 12 o’clock we have the Promaster symbol signifying the ISO6425 Certification. On the reverse, a screw-down case back, inside an automatic Citizen Cal. 8402, 21 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour, this workhorse movement was first introduced in 1977 and has hacking and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on its Citizen black rubber strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Citizen presentation box and paperwork.

The Brand
Citizen founded the Shokosha Watch Research Institute in 1918. The name originates from a pocket watch it produced in 1924. The Mayor of Tokyo, Mr Shimpei Goto, named the watch "CITIZEN", in the hopes the watch would become a worldwide success. In 1930 the name Citizen Watch Company was introduced. In 1959, Citizen launched Japan’s first fully waterproof watch, the Parawater. During the “quartz crisis” they developed the Eco-Drive movement in 1976. This was one of the first solar-powered watches on the market. Continuing to innovate and expand its reach In 1993, Citizen introduced the world’s first multi-band atomic watch. It uses Atomic clocks around the world to synchronise to within two nanoseconds per day. Citizen make the cases, the dial, the hands, and the movement in their Iida factory in Japan. Today the Citizen Group owns brands such as Alpina, Arnold & Son.
