Zodiac was founded in 1882 by Ariste Calame. Their headquarters can be found in Locle Switzerland. The name Zodiac was patented in 1908 when he started to manufacture wristwatches. In 1953 we saw the introduction of the Sea Wolf, one of the first commercial purpose-built dive watches. On October 1, 2001, Fossil Inc. purchased the worldwide rights to the Zodiac brand name for approximately $4.7 million.
We have here a fantastic 2021 Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Aquamarine Dream Special, a collaboration with Ariel Adams from A Blog To Watch and Zodiac. While Ariel was on holiday on the island of Nassau in the Bahamas in 2019, he was inspired by the aquamarine shades of the Caribbean seafloor. He took several pictures to remind him of that time and to reference when working with Zodiac on this watch. The 40mm stainless steel case has brushed and polished surfaces with steeply angled lugs. At 49mm lug to lug length, you can be sure of a comfortable fit on the wrist as the lugs gently angle. On the right side, is a signed screw-down crown. The unidirectional hardened mineral bezel has an ocean blue dive insert, with aquamarine triangles holding a flat sapphire crystal AR coated. Its two-tone turquoise and the aquamarine dial have a broad turquoise minute track precisely printed. Applied indexes with rounded edges are filled with Super-LumiNova marking the hours. Broad Super-LumiNova filled baton hands, the hands with rounded edges matching the indexes. The centre seconds hand has a square counterweight. Making the dial very legible in all types of lighting conditions. This watch really does make a statement of intent on your wrist. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with enamel-filled centre and a quote in Ariel’s handwriting “I’d rather be swimming” in the centre. Inside the Fossil Groups in-house manufactured Automatic STP Cal. 3-13, 26 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. It has hand winding and hacking. Fitted on its original 20mm five-link Zodiac steel bracelet with a signed folding butterfly clasp and a Zodiac turquoise rubber strap with a signed buckle. The watch also comes with its Zodiac presentation box and papers.
If the perfect summer watch existed I think we may be looking at it, the shade of blue truly is a dream and it works beautifully in the sun. The quick-release bracelet and rubber strap makes changing it on the fly super easy, I could imagine taking both options on holiday with the watch and you'd be set. Plus, the watch is a lot of fun, that's what Zodiac is getting so right in my opinion.
