Here we have a 2021 Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Full Open 03.2081.400 launched in 2017, that has a 42mm brushed and polished stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with polished flat-ended tapered lugs, polished flanks flow towards the lug-to-lug length of 50.5mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. Down the right side, we have the piston chronograph pushers and a signed crown in the centre. A polished and brushed smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal, AR-coated above an amazing monochromatic grey skeletonised full open dial. A blue chapter ring surrounds a segmented brushed silver ring with applied, faceted baton hour markers, SuperLumiNova-tipped, that appear to float above the dial. At 3 o’clock, a 30-minute register features a blue concentric circle ring and a red-tipped hand, while at 6 o'clock, a 12-hour register is marked by a grey concentric circle ring and a white-tipped hand. At 6 o’clock, a framed quick-set date window displays the skeletonised date ring in red numerals. Finally, at 9 o’clock, with a white concentric circle running seconds register and a black hand. Polished hands are filled with Super-LumiNova, complemented by a tapered chronograph hand, red-tipped, with a Zenith star counterweight that spins one complete rotation each second. At noon, the Zenith El Primero motif completes this mesmerising and dynamic chronograph. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition sapphire case back with engraved details around its edge, inside an automatic Zenith El Primero Cal. 400, 31 jewels, a high-frequency column-wheel movement beating at 36,000 beats per hour with a skeletonised Zenith star rotor. Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Zenith box and paperwork. It comes paired with its 21mm Zenith rubber strap and Zenith clasp, plus its original unused Zenith 21mm black strap in the box. The watch is from September 2021 and is in worn condition, but overall it is in very fair condition, as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

This is the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster 'Full Open' in 42mm, and it utilises the famous calibre 400 and provides a more open view on the dial side, showing just how complicated and beautiful this movement is. Currently paired on a Zenith perforated rubber strap, this morphs this model to the perfect summer watch, but swap it back onto its original black leather strap you have something surprisingly dressy. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to see this one in the metal for yourself, but be warned, you will likely walk away with it on your wrist, it's that good!

About Zenith

The year was 1846, and a young watchmaker named Edwin Fear established a workshop and showroom in his own name at 33-35 Redcliff Street in Bristol. The company Edwin Fear that he created became more and more successful and eventually, in 1866, needed to expand to their second premises, on Bristol Bridge, which served as Fears headquarters until the 1940s. During this period, the company had three different Managing Directors. Following the passing of Edwin in 1877, the business was handed down to his son, Amos Daniel Fear, who in 1908 saw the company become a limited company whilst also changing its operating name from ‘Edwin Fear’ to ’Fears Limited’. Amos also safely navigated the company through the First World War,1914-1918, after which he established an export department called ‘Fears (Export) Limited’ at No. 14 Brunswick Square in Bristol. In late 1945, following the War, Fears moved to new premises in Clifton, Bristol, just in time to celebrate the company’s centenary in 1946 with a new watch collection. Fears continued to thrive through the post-war years until it sadly closed its doors in 1976. It was not until 40 years later, in 2016, when an aspiring young apprentice watchmaker at Rolex in London, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, who is the great-great-great-grandson of Edwin Fear, re-launched his family’s company at the SalonQP watch show on 3rd November 2016. Keeping the name ‘Fears’, he released their first wristwatch in the twenty-first century, the Redcliff. Rolling with the success of the Redcliff in 2017, they released their second wristwatch, The Brunswick, named after Brunswick Square in Bristol. In 2022, Fears relocated to its historic home city of Bristol, where they built a new Headquarters and Showroom. In 2023, the first Fears and Christopher Ward Alliance Watch was released, the Jump Hour, a unique collaboration between two powerhouses of the British Watch & Clock Makers Alliance. The Alliance was set up in November 2020 as a Trade body representing 75 Brands across the British Isles, including the Republic of Ireland, such brands as Bamford London, Christopher Ward, Fears, Farer, Elliot Brown, Isotope, Marloe Watch Company, MHD Watches, Pinion, Schofield, Studio Underdog and many others.
