The Watch
Yema was founded in 1948 by Henry Louis Belmont after he came top of his class at the National Watchmaking School of Besancon in 1931. The legend goes that the name Yema was created by a teenager's imagination who entered a competition run by Henry. 1963 saw the introduction of the Yema Superman, essentially made for dive professionals; it had a 300-meter water resistance. Its bezel lock system made it quite unique and was soon adopted by the French Air force for its pilots. In the 1960s Yema became the leading watch exporter in France selling more than 500,000 watches a year in over 50 countries. In 1982 Yema went to space with Yema Spationaute 1.
Our 2021 YEMA Navygraf Maxi Dial is a reissue of the 1970s Navygraf dive watch. The satin-brushed 39mm stainless steel case gently curves over your wrist ending with tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 46.5mm and a thickness of 12mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a large screw-down crown protected by crown guards. The unidirectional bezel has a 60-minute scale under a covering of sapphire crystal. A flat sapphire crystal sits above a matte black dial. An outer minute track has large orange outlined disc’s coated in Super Luminova C5 marking the hours. Orange sword hands are complemented by an orange sweeping second hand. The contrast of the orange against the black is striking. Text is precisely printed at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively. On the reverse, a polished screw-down case back with the Yema coats of arms in the center. Inside an Automatic YEMA2000, 29 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. This in-house movement is the second generation of their Caliber MBP1000 first released in 2011. The watch comes fitted with its original 19mm leather strap and comes with its Yema presentation box and papers.
