The Watch
WOLBROOK watches were introduced in 1949 building rugged timepieces. In 1955 their sister brand Douglas was created offering large waterproof timepieces with legible green luminescence indexes on their dials. During the 1960s and the space race Neil Armstrong famously owned a Douglas Skindiver “Worldtimer” which was auctioned in 2019. During the1970s “quartz revolution”, they went out of business. But after 50 years Wolbrook and Douglas have been reborn in 2019.
Our 2021 Wolbrook Skindiver has a 40mm 316L Stainless steel case which is brush finished by hand. A lug to lug length of 48mm and a thickness of 12.5mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, a screw-down signed crown. A unidirectional bezel has a 60-minute scale insert and a satisfying 120 clicks. The domed glass boxed sapphire crystal emulates the crystals of the past with AR coating on its inner surface that helps with viewing angles. The black dial has an outer minute track with large Arabic numerals and baton indices coated in beige-coloured "Old Radium'' Super-LumiNova. Broad sword and arrow hands are coated in the same luminance complemented by a lollipop sweeping second hand. Text is printed in white. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with an engraved coral fish in the center. Inside an Automatic Miyota 8315, 21 jewels, 21,600 beats per hour. The movement has hacking and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm “Tropic” rubber strap with a signed buckle and comes with its Wolbrook presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
A seriously good-looking watch for not a lot of money, I think we should be keeping a close eye on what Wolbrook releases as I've had a few in now and they have all been fantastic.
