The Watch
UNIMATIC was born in 2016 to much fanfare. The UNIMATIC Modello Uno is an Italian design, with Swiss asperations. Here we have a collaboration between UNIMATIC and Hodinkee producing a Limited Edition of 500 pieces. Designed and envisioned by Hodinkee in appreciation of the unique Unimatic styling.
The 41mm brushed stainless steel case curves in all the right places. A lug-to-lug length of 48.5mm and a thickness of 12.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, is a screw-down crown protected by crown guards. Its 120 clicks uni-directional 24-hour bezel has black numerals for the nighttime and white numerals for the daylight hours. A sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a matte black dial. An outer minute track, large disc, and baton indexes lume filled with Super-LumiNova C1 White mark the hours. Broad phantom ladder hands filled with the same Super-LumiNova C1 White lume and a grey reverse lollipop second hand with a grey tip. The grey GMT arrow hand can be independently adjusted to indicate the second time zone. At 6 o’clock a framed date window. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with a deep engraving showing the 24 major time zones and celebrating the collaboration and its number out of 500. Inside an Automatic SW330-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes with a black two-piece Black cordovan 22mm strap and a black NATO 22mm strap both with a signed buckle and also comes with its UNIMATIC tough case and papers.
Personal Note
This has easily become one of my favourite Unimatic's thanks to its colour tone but also how well it wears, the difference between these Sellita and Seiko movements is marginal, but it really does make all the difference on the wrist personally. I wouldn't hang about if you have been after one of these for a while, the previous ones we've had have flown out incredibly quickly.
