Here we have a 2021 Tudor Black Bay 58 18ct Gold Green Dial 79018V with a curvaceous satin-finished 39mm 18ct yellow gold case. The case curves over your wrist with a lug-to-lug length of 47.5mm and a case thickness of 11.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a screw-down crown, with an 18ct yellow gold winding crown tube and Tudor Rose in relief. The 18ct yellow gold unidirectional bezel has a matte green anodised aluminium insert with a gilded 60-minute dive scale. The domed sapphire crystal sits above a matte, green-coloured dial. An outer gilded minute track surrounds the applied disc, and baton indexes are filled with SuperLumiNova, marking the hours. The characteristic Snowflake hands are filled with SuperLumiNova, complemented by a counterweighted, tapered, sweeping second hand. Text is in gilded gold at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, respectively, completing this striking dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back with the gold hallmarks and details of the watch engraved, inside an automatic Tudor Cal. MT5400, 27 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. This in-house movement is COSC-certified and has a skeletonised bi-directional rotor and silicon balance spring, and the movement is finished in a combination of sandblasting, satin brushing, and polishing. It comes paired with its 20mm Tudor brown alligator strap with a signed buckle in 18ct yellow gold, and the watch also comes with its Tudor presentation box and papers.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Tudor box, swing tags and paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm Tudor leather strap and 18ct yellow gold pin buckle, plus its Tudor NATO strap with 18ct yellow gold hardware. The watch is from December 2021 and is sold in worn, but fair condition, as you can see from the photographs. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

A Tudor Black Bay 58 in solid 18ct gold sounds so counterintuitive to what it should be, but wow, does it work in the metal and look incredible on the wrist. This reference 79018V features one of the most subtle green dials and bezels I have seen on a watch, in some lights morphing into a deep grey and in others a rich dark green. With an eyewatering recommended retail price of £16,100, this is certainly up there, but this 2021 example comes in at essentially half that price, and at that price, it is a watch to seriously consider for your collection!

About Tudor

Swiss watchmaking company “Veuve de Philippe Hüther” on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf the founder of Rolex watches first registered in 1926 The Tudor trademark. Wilsdorf took it over himself in 1936. Soon after the second world war, Hans Wilsdorf who founded Rolex knew that it was time for Tudor to have a proper identity of its own. The Tudor Rose started to appear on their dials from this moment. On 6 March 1946, he created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company, creating watches for both men and women. Rolex guaranteed the overall design aesthetic, as well as distribution and after-sales service. In 1948 we saw the first Tudor-specific advertising. A few years later they introduced the TUDOR Oyster Prince in 1952. Hans Wilsdorf allowed Tudor to use their waterproof Oyster case and the original self-winding Perpetual ’rotor’ movement. This was an exclusive arrangement that benefitted both brands. Development soon commenced with the introduction of the TUDOR Oyster Prince Submariner, reference 7922 in 1954. This watch was quickly adopted by the French Navy in 1956. Building on their reputation of robustness in 1961 the Rose was replaced by the shield. Later in 1969, we saw the design changes in Ref. 7016 where for the first time square indexes and angular hands nicknamed “snowflake” allowed for a greater amount of lume to be applied; this was appreciated by the divers of the French Navy. Today these innovations can be seen in the Black Bay and Pelagos collections. In 1971 Tudor introduced the Oysterdate chronographs nicknamed “Monte-Carlo” due to their resembling a roulette wheel. Celebrating their 50th anniversary in 1996. In that same year, Tudor decided to shed Rolex signed components such as the cases, crowns and bracelets in favour of Tudor branded ones. Today Tudor uses their in-house movements developed initially in 2015 in collaboration with Breitling.
