The Watch
The Swiss luxury watch company Tissot from Le Locle, Switzerland, was established in 1853 by Charles Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile. Under Charles-Emile’s direction, they manufactured pocket watches with parts from Russia and the United States. In 1915, the company began producing wristwatches. Between 1920 and 1977, Tissot produced its movements. In 1930 to survive the 1929 crash and economic crisis they agreed with Omega to form the SSIH Group which 53 years later became the Swatch Group.
Here we have a 2021 Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 which was launched in July 2021. The 40mm stainless steel tonneau-shaped case is clearly inspired by the Gerald Genta creations of the 1970s. The lines of the case flow effortlessly over your wrist with the comfort of an integrated bracelet. A lug to lug length of 44mm and a case thickness of just 11mm enforces this fact. On the right side, is a signed crown. The stepped smooth bezel has polished sides and brushed tops holding the flat sapphire crystal. A distinctive waffle pattern adds dimension and interest to the blue dial. Applied baton indexes play with the light as you rotate your wrist. At 3 o’clock a framed date window. The long baton hands are coated in luminance and complimented by a tapered sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock “TISSOT” and at 6 o’clock “PRX” “POWERMATIC 80”. On the reverse, an exhibition case back. Inside an Automatic Powermatic 80.111 this innovative movement is based on the ETA Cal 2824-2 and has the Patented Nivachron balance spring. The watch is fitted on its original integrated stainless steel bracelet with quick-release and a push-button butterfly clasp. The watch also comes with its TISSOT presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
I am asked on a regular basis for my opinion on the Tissot PRX and I've handled multiple but had not yet had one in for stock, I am seriously blown away! To the point I wish I hadn't sold this one and I am actually looking to purchase myself and my wife one soon, so that should say how good I think this watch is!
