Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Squale Box & Paperwork. The watch comes paired on its original black tropic rubber 20mm strap with a signed Squale buckle. The watch is from Circa. 2021 and is sold in worn condition, but overall very fair condition as you can see, one the lugs has gone some marks. The watch comes with our 12-Month Warranty.

The Watch

Here we have a 2021 Squale 1521 Militaire Divers Watch with a 41mm blasted stainless steel case, 1521 pays tribute to their dive heritage and specifically to their classic Charles von Büren-designed Squale 1521. Bevel edges lead to a lug-to-lug length of 48.5mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist, at 4 o’clock a signed screw-down crown was slightly recessed into the case. A unidirectional bezel has a black dive insert with large numerals holding a flat sapphire crystal AR coated above a black dial, and an outer minute track has baton indexes coated in Superluminova C3 luminescence marking the hours. The hands consist of a slim orange minute hand and a broad sword hand infilled with the same luminance complemented by a counterweighted second hand. At 12 o’clock underneath the inverted triangle, we have the Squale motif and "Militaire" at 6 o’clock Automatic 500m completing this military-inspired dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the Squale “Professional” acid-etched in the centre, inside an Automatic Sellita SW200, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, the movement has hacking and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on its 20mm Squale 20mm tropic rubber strap with a signed buckle and comes with its Squale presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

For me these bead-blasted cases on the 1521 are perfect and the best of the Squale lineup, these models merge their history and heritage into a modern package perfect for regular wear and enjoyment. Squale always surprises me with how well they wear on the wrist for their size, they have really nailed wrist presence just like Seiko has with a lot of their diver range!

The Brand

Squale was founded by Charles von Büren in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1946 as a manufacturer of watchcases and other components for other watch brands. In 1950 von Buren began to produce professional dive watches under the Squale name. During the 1960s and 70s, Squale produced cases for many brands including Prima, Blandford, Deman Watch, Berio, and Sinn. In 1974 Squale decided to enter the watch market in their own right. Unfortunately like many other watch brands during the “quartz crisis” they stopped production in 1989. Relaunching the brand in 2010 the Maggi family who were previously distributors of von Buren and Squale watches in Italy. Their headquarters can be found in Milan, with watch production in Grenchen in the Jura valley Switzerland.
