The Watch

The Smiths PRS-25 Everest is an homage to the Smiths De Luxe that clearly took its inspiration from the iconic Rolex Explorer Ref. 6150 launched in 1953 to celebrate the courageous climb; borrowing elements of both these watches, Timefactors has created a limited edition of 500 pieces to celebrate their 25 years of selling watches on the internet. Its 36mm stainless steel Oyster-style case has curves in all the right places, a lug-to-lug length of 44mm and a thickness of 11mm, ensuring a comfortable wrist fit. Polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges, and the sides are slightly convex, adding to the comfort. On the right side is a screw-down signed crown. A polished bezel holds a hi-dome sapphire crystal AR coated, this stunning Aventurine dial is made using transparent quartz or quartzite, and inside the quartz, small flake-shaped inclusions reflect light in a magical way known as "aventurescence." When you rotate your wrist, the dial shimmers from black to blue and gives you the impression that you are looking into the starry sky; this is a mined mineral that makes each dial unique. An outer minute track with a lumed triangle at 12 and Arabic numerals at 3, 6 and 9 are coated in X1-C3 Superluminova luminescence with batons in between marking the hours. Polished steel hands are complemented by a lollipop centre seconds hand coated in X1-C3 Superluminova luminescence. Text is minimalist with “SMITHS" and “DE LUXE” at 12 and in glossy black text “Everest" at 6, just under the 6 “Great Britain” is printed, similar to the original that had "Made in England". All these vintage and unique touches make for an appealing timepiece. On the reverse, a screw-down case back “Smiths DE LUXE"  “SILVER JUBILEE 1996-2021” and the number 236/500 engraved in the centre, inside an automatic Miyota Cal. 9039, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, it has hand winding and hacking functionality, this movement belongs to the Miyota Premium Automatic range, it was first introduced in 2018. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm brushed and polished stainless steel Jubilee-style bracelet with a signed folding twin-pusher release clasp, and the use of screws for link removal is a nice touch; lug holes on the case make for easy strap swapping. The watch also comes with its Smiths presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

This incredible watch was created in a limited edition of 500 watches to celebrate Timefactor's 25 years of selling watches on the internet, quite an achievement. Inspired by the brand's past but undoubtedly the Rolex Explorer, this Everest Silver Jubilee features something the Rolex never has, and likely never will, a striking and mesmerising Aventurine dial which is made using transparent quartz or quartzite, and inside the quartz, small flake-shaped inclusions reflect light in a magical way known as "aventurescence." I would not hesitate to add this wonderful watch to your collection today whilst you can!

The Brand

Originally founded in 1851 by Samual Smith where he made automotive dials and cockpit instruments. He transitioned into clocks and, finally, wristwatches, which came to the fore during WW2. Famously, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953 carried a Smiths De Lux watch to the summit of Everest as well as the more famous Rolex. Since 1996, Timefactors.com has been manufacturing and selling homage and re-edition timepieces from Omega 300 to Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. They now own the Smiths name and, therefore, sell many models from Smith's illustrious past.
