Here we have a 2021 Sinn U50 Fully Tegimented Automatic 1050.030 with a 41mm bead blasted German submarine stainless steel case treated with a hard coating to be scratch resistant and sea water resistant. TEGIMENT Technology enhances the hardness of base materials, such as stainless steel, offering excellent protection against scratches. This innovative process hardens the material's surface, creating a durable protective layer called “tegimentum,” derived from Latin. The thick curved, drilled lugs have a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a thickness of 11mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side at 4 o’clock, a TEGIMENT Technology-treated signed screw-down crown. The unidirectional bezel has deep scalloped knurling for extra grip. A 60-minute scale highlighted in red from 15-60 with an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock. The flat sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides sits above a black dial. An outer minute track has blocks of SuperLuminova marking the hours. At 3 o’clock, a colour-matched date window. The flat red baton hands have lume tips complemented by a red centre second hand with a lume tip and a red counterweight. The text is minimalist, with “Sinn” at 12 o’clock and “U50 Automatik” and “500M 50 BAR” in red print. The dial's simplicity makes for a very legible dive watch. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic Sellita Cal. SW300-1, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, it has hacking seconds for your convenience. It comes paired with its original Sinn 20mm fitted and cut rubber strap with a signed folding clasp, TEGIMENT Technology treated, it will fit up to a 6.75-inch wrist, and new straps can be had from Sinn. This watch is sold with its original Sinn presentation box, spring bar removal tool and Sinn paperwork.
Personal Note
The Sinn U50 is another iconic watch from the German brand, offering a recognisable design and their insane robustness that we have all come to know and love Sinn for. Coming in a 40mm fully regimented case, this watch features additional hardness and resistance, and it shows that once the watches are a few years old, they still look hardly used. I would not hesitate to add this U50 to your collection today, especially as they rarely seem to come up for sale and when they do, they are often priced far higher than what we are asking here!
The Brand
In 1961, the pilot and flight instructor Helmet Sinn founded the Sinn watch company in Frankfurt am Main. Principally making watches that gave the user maximum functionality at a reasonable price. His Pilot watches became popular with his fellow pilots as they appreciated their build quality and precision. In 1985, Professor Dr Reinhard Furrer, a German physicist, could be seen wearing the 140 S model on his wrist during the D-1 space lab mission. They continued their exploration of space with the 142 S in 1992. This watch was worn by Dietrich Flade during the Mir-92 mission. Later in 1993, the 142 space chronograph went on the second German Spacelab mission, the D-2. The mission was in space for 10 days, orbiting the Earth 160 times whilst onboard the NASA Space Shuttle, Columbia. SINN was bought by Lothar Schmidt, an engineer, in 1994, renaming the company ‘Sinn Spezialuhren GmbH’. Over the years, Schmidt used his engineering background to develop Ar-dehumidifying technology, which is resistant to temperature. In 2011, they celebrated their 50th anniversary.
