Description

Here we have a 2021 Ophion 786 Vélos Blue Radial Dial featuring a curvaceous 39mm polished stainless steel case made in collaboration with the legendary Kari Voutilainen’s Cattin company. The beautifully polished case curves over your wrist with distinctive, individually welded tapered teardrop-shaped lugs. A lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm ensure a comfortable, elegant fit. On the right side is a flat onion-profile crown with fine knurling for an effortless grip when winding. A smooth, convex bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, sitting above a striking galvanic deep blue Radial dial. The dial is a masterclass in independent design, showcasing a mesmerising blue dial. An outer, multi-layered minute track ring sits proud of the dial, surrounding individually applied rhodium-plated Breguet-style Arabic numerals that appear to float. Rhodium-plated open-worked "Vélos" arrow hands majestically trace the hours and minutes, complemented by an elongated, slender central seconds hand featuring a delicate petite hammer-tip counterweight. On the reverse, a flat sapphire crystal exhibition case back showcases a proprietary manually wound calibre manufactured by MHVJ and Soprod (Base Technotime TT 718). This highly symmetrical twin-barrel movement delivers an exceptional 5-day (120-hour) power reserve while beating at a brisk 28,800 vibrations per hour. Ophion fully customised the aesthetic by replacing the main plates with distinct pocket-watch-inspired finger bridges. These bridges feature a hand-hammered grenaille frosted finish, providing a stunning, high-contrast look alongside clean machine-polished bevels and straight-brushed barrel wheels. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm premium leather strap and polished pin buckle. This watch is sold with its original Ophion presentation box, watch roll, and paperwork.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Ophion presentation box, watch roll and paperwork. The watch comes paired with its original 20mm premium leather strap and polished pin buckle. The watch is from March 2021 and is sold in worn condition, but overall it is in fair condition, as shown in the photographs. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.

Personal Note

I genuinely think this represents an incredible amount of watch for the money, especially in the rapidly growing world of independent watchmaking, where prices seem to be climbing higher and higher. The attention to detail is fantastic, from the beautifully sculpted case and those wonderful teardrop lugs to the striking blue dial with its floating numerals. But turn it over and things get even more interesting, with a beautifully finished movement offering an impressive five-day power reserve. For me, Ophion is one of those independent brands that deserves far more attention. The design, craftsmanship and finishing are all punching well above their price point. I would not hesitate to add this modern gem to your collection today!
