The Watch

Here we have a 2021 Kurono Tokyo Seiji Blue Dial Limited Edition of 500 pieces. The 37mm high-polished 316L stainless steel case curves over your wrist with a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. Taking its design cues from the Art Deco timepieces of the past. On the right side is a domed crown. The polished smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal, giving the illusion of the plexiglass crystals of the past. The beautiful shade of blue/green lacquered dial was hand-mixed by master watchmaker Hajime Asaoka-sensei at his studio in late 2020. Under different lighting conditions, the dial shimmers in the light as you rotate your wrist. An outer minute rail track is precisely printed. Three engraved concentric steel rings with four applied baton indexes catch the light mesmerisingly. Sculpted brushed hands complemented by a tapered teardrop balanced sweeping second-hand finishing this elegantly understated vision of Japanese creativity and sensibility. The brand motif is found at 12 o’clock with Automatic at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with the brand motif and details of the designer engraved into it, inside an automatic Miyota 90S5, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour; this movement is part of the high-grade Miyota family with hand winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes fitted on a Kurono Tokyo 20mm white calf leather strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its original Kurono Tokyo box, saké cup, swing tag, and paperwork.

Personal Note

I am excited to bring this Kurono Tokyo Seiji Blue to the website, limited to just 500 and initially released with some controversy for their handling of a "women-only" release, the final product is thankfully undeniably cool and quintessentially Kurono. Fresh from a service this example is ready to be enjoyed and priced as such. Do not hesitate to add this watch to your collection today!

The Brand

Kurono Tokyo was founded by Hajime Asaoka in 2019. He is a Japanese watchmaker, one of only two members of AHCI (AHCI — Académie horlogère des créateurs indépendants). Academy of independent watch artists, since 2015. Renowned for very low production handcrafted watches that sell for upwards of £120,000. He decided to offer a more affordable timepiece that has the same DNA as his more bespoke watches. Each watch is offered in limited numbers, and in the case of the Toki, it was offered for only 10 minutes and was immediately sold out. Production is controlled through Precision Watch Tokyo Co.Ltd, the very same company that Hajime Asaoka uses for his handmade creations.
