The Watch
Here we have a 2021 Hublot Classic Fusion Racing Grey Titanium 42mm. Design and technical excellence come together with the Classic Fusion, a combination of simplicity and form. A round Satin and Polished finished Titanium 42mm case, and Titanium brushed and polished bezel secured with the Hublot signature 6 H-shaped Titanium screws, the lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a case thickness of 9.5mm ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. A black porthole-shaped composite resin is sandwiched between the bezel and case. Sapphire AR Coated crystal protects the racing grey sunray dial, applied faceted baton hour indexes, steel baton-shaped hands, and a steel centre sweep second hand with a Hublot signature counterbalance; play with the light as you rotate your wrist. A 3 o’clock date window adds symmetry. There's an exhibition case back showcasing the automatic Sellita SW300-1, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour, a Hublot-signed skeletonised rotor with convenient hand winding, hacking seconds and quick-set date functionality. An integrated grey 22mm Alligator/Crocodile leather and rubber inlay strap with a signed push button release clasp to fit the wrist comfortably and comes with its Hublot presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
Hublot often finds itself on the end of abuse from the watch collecting community and it is usually from those who haven't handled or experienced the watches in hand or on the wrist, they are built incredibly well, their design language is bold and distinctive and they are a powerhouse of marketing among the LVMH group. This titanium 42mm Classic Fusion Racing Grey dial is wonderful on the wrist and looks far more expensive than the price-tag. I would not hesitate to snap this one up and add it to your collection today!
The Brand
Hublot's history begins with its creator – Carlo Crocco, an Italian who was inspired by his family of watchmakers. He designed his first watch in 1967, and in 1980, he set up the Hublot company. In late 2003, Swatch Group's Omega division president Jean-Claude Biver had a meeting with Carlo Crocco, and in May 2004, Biver became CEO, sat on the board and became a minority shareholder in Hublot Watches. Immediately, Biver created a new flagship collection that was shown in BaselWorld in April 2005, Hublot's "Big Bang" chronograph—becoming an immediate hit. A few months later, in November 2005, the Big Bang chronograph was awarded internationally, receiving the following awards: "2005 Design Prize" in the "Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix", "Watch of the Year" in Bahrain and "Watch of the Year" in Japan, and the Middle Eastern Prize for the "Best Oversized Watch" at the Editor’s Choice. Through the innovation and genius of Biver in 2004, the brand's sales went from 24 million Swiss francs to close to a staggering 100 million Swiss francs in 2006. Hublot opened its first boutique in Paris, in the Rue Saint-Honoré in February 2007. In April 2008, it was announced that the LVMH group had purchased Hublot from founder Carlo Crocco for an undisclosed fee. As of 2019, Hublot had 169 Boutiques.
