Points of Mention

This watch is sold with an original Glashütte box & paperwork. The watch comes paired with its Glashütte 20mm leather strap with a signed buckle. The watch is from July 2021 and is in worn condition, however as you can see from the photos it is in great overall condition with few signs of wear. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

The Watch

In 1845 Ferdinand Adolph Lange established his workshop in the German town of Glashütte. Glashütte (Sa.) limited company was registered in 1918, producing pocket watches in 1921 with the words, “Original Glashütte” on the dial. In 1927, this company would become known as UROFA, producing movement blanks or ébauches. At the same time, a second company, UFAG, built and distributed watches. It was at the same time that the name “Glashütte Original” first appeared on the dial of a wristwatch. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe became Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe GmbH. In 1994, a Bavarian businessman, Heinz Pfeiffer took over the business and brought back the name “Glashütte Original”. This company was ultimately sold to the Swatch Group in 2000. Today, Glashütte Original, under the ownership of the Swatch Group, produces some exquisite timepieces.

Here we have a 2021 Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar with a 40mm stainless steel case. The chamfered-edged lugs float over your wrist with a lug to lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit. On the right side, we have a signed crown and a small recessed pusher to adjust the moon phase disc. The polished bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal. A Galvanised silver-tone matte asymmetric dial with the moon phase crescent at 2 o’clock, a large framed date window, and finally the two dials the larger one has applied chamfered baton indexes marking the hours and a sub-seconds dial interconnected to create a very pleasing arrangement. Blued Alpha hands are a nice contrast to the striking white of the dial. The text is precisely executed around the dial completing the classic Glashütte aesthetic. On the reverse, a sapphire crystal exhibition screwed-down case back. Inside an Automatic Glashutte Original Cal. 90-02, 47 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. This incredible movement has all the hallmarks of a master craftsman. Glashütte's three-quarter plate has a striped finish, an off-center skeletonized rotor continues with the striped finish, the double-G logo and 21-carat gold oscillation weight catches the eye, They use a Duplex-swan-neck for fine adjustments, their balance bridge has been engraved by hand. The watch comes fitted on a black Louisiana Alligator leather 20mm strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Glashütte presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

For me, it doesn't get any better than this for German craftsmanship and design on a budget, granted it still isn't super "cheap", but it really is fantastic value for money when compared to the likes of Lange! I really do believe I will add one of these to the personal collection one day, until that day however I have to regretfully watch this go to a happy new wrist! Come in and try it on for yourself, you'll be blown away.
