Description

Here we have a classic 2021 Fortis Flieger F-39 Automatic Black dial; this modern interpretation of the Flieger has been part of the Fortis line for nearly 40 years since 1987. This model was created in collaboration with the Swiss Air Force. It has a 39mm brushed recycled stainless steel case that curves over your wrist thanks to the thick tapered drilled screwed lugs. The brushed flanks lead to a lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, there is a screw-down signed crown with deep knurling and a triple gasket system. The coin-edge bidirectional concave bezel has engraved 12-hour numerals and holds a flat sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides above a black dial. The crystal is protected by the concave nature of the bezel. A raised minute chapter ring has applied batons and triangle made of Pilot Green Superluminova®X1 Brixtrack® surrounding white Arabic numerals and double pips marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a orange framed colour matched date window, black metallic sword hands are coated in Pilot Green Superluminova®X1 and complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand coated in Orange Synchroline®, at noon we have the Fortis motif “Flieger” printed underneath and at 6 o’clock “F-39” and in orange “Automatic” completes this dynamic aviator timepiece. On the reverse, a screw-down solid case back engraved with the details of the watch around its edge and a propeller design in the centre, inside an automatic Fortis Cal. UW-30, a Sellita SW200-based movement beating at 28,800 beats per hour, has hacking seconds for precision setting. It comes paired with its 21mm Fortis black leather strap and signed pin buckle. The watch comes with its Fortis presentation box, swing tag, screwdriver and Fortis paperwork.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Fortis presentation box, swing tag, screwdriver and Fortis paperwork. It comes paired with its original 21mm Fortis black leather strap and signed pin buckle. The watch is from March 2021 and is sold in lightly worn condition, as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

Fortis is a brand often forgotten about in the conversation by collectors, whether this is down to their marketing or something else, but one thing is for certain: the watches are built like tanks, look and feel great on the wrist and offer incredible value for money. This Fortis Flieger F-39 automatic, in 39mm, is the perfect example of what the brand can achieve for an incredibly fair price. I am regularly asked about Forits against Sinn, and I have to be honest, at their equivalent price points and modern examples, they are absolutely on par with one another. I would not hesitate to add this to your collection today!

About Fortis

FORTIS was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt; their headquarters and factory are based in Grenchen, Switzerland. In 1926, Walter joined forces with the inventor of the automatic movement, John Harwood, to mass-produce the world's first automatic watch. In 1962, Rolf Vogt, son of the founder, handed over to NASA the Spacematic AR (All Risks) designed by FORTIS. 2003 saw the introduction of the official Cosmonaut Chronograph, which is still worn today as official equipment by Russian Cosmonauts, very much like the Omega Speedmaster Professional is still the official NASA watch.
