The Watch
In 2015 Farer, an independent British watch brand was founded by Stuart Finlayson, Jono Holt, Ben Lewin, and Paul Sweetenham. Operating out of Ascot, Berkshire in the UK. All having a passion for watches, their first creations were 9 quartz watches. In 2016 they launched three automatic watches naming them after British Royal Navy ships. Building on this success in 2019 they released two land speed record-themed watches and later a collection of chronographs.
Here we have a 2021 Farer Bernina Sport Chronograph with a 41mm 316L Marine Grade stainless steel case. Launched at the Bernina Gran Turismo 2019 featuring a race across the Swiss Alps. Modern Formula cars and historic classics compete over a 5.7-kilometre course between La Rösa and Hospizio Bernina, which is just outside St. Moritz. The subtle curve of the case with a lug to lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 13.5mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence. Circular and horizontal brushing of the case transitions with crisp edges. Down the right side, we have the chronograph pushers and a signed crown with a machined bronze cap and embossed Farer “A”. The ceramic fixed bezel has an engraved Tachymetre in red. A boxed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside sits above a striking matte off-white dial. The outer chapter ring has a Telemetre scale in red. On the dial, we have a 60-second scale in red with the first 15 seconds in blue. At 3 o’clock a 30-minute register, at 6 o’clock a 12-hour register and finally at 9 o’clock the small second's register. Arabic numerals in thick red print mark the hours. Elegant dauphine hands infilled with Super LumiNova and outlined in red are complemented by a red tapered chronograph hand. At 12 o’clock the Farer motif is printed and at 6 o'clock Chronograph is printed in red completing this historically inspired chronograph. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back with a flat sapphire crystal. Inside a Manually Wound Sellita SW510 BH Elaboré, 23 jewels, 28,800 Bbeats per hour. This high-grade movement has been decorated with a skeletonised framework engraved with the Farer monogram in a chequered pattern. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm leather strap with an additional Farer strap in the box. The watch also comes with its Farer presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
I've been patiently waiting to get one of these in for a while, to finally see what the colours look like in person and if it works on the wrist. I am pleased to say it works and it works incredibly well! But maybe it should come as no surprise that Farer knows how to mix colours in a watch and make it work, especially ones as bold as this! I wouldn't hesitate on this watch, especially with summer approaching, it is a fantastic choice!
