The Watch
Bremont introduced the U-22 at BaselWorld in 2015, inspired and created for the secretive U-2 Spy plane squadron. The 43mm brushed hardened stainless steel round case uses the Bremont Trip-Tick construction system made up of 3 parts, a hardened steel bezel, a middle section DLC treated middle barrel plus we have an additional Bronze middle barrel which has been removed and is included in the box and finally a steel case back. A 49.5mm lug-to-lug length and a case thickness of 14mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence, and on the right side at 2 o’clock a screw-down crown to adjust the time and date and at 4 o’clock a screw-down crown for adjusting the compass quadrant chapter ring which is used by pilots when weather mapping, both have deep knurling making gripping them even with gloves on a satisfying experience. The brushed hardened bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal with AR coating applied to both sides, greatly reducing reflections. The gunmetal grey dial has yellow baton markings and thickly applied Super-LumiNova Arabic numerals, plongeur watch hands alongside a white sweeping seconds hand with a red arrow tip. At 3 o’clock a framed day/date window reflects the Altimeter found in the cockpit. On the reverse, a DLC-coated stainless steel screwed-in exhibition case back, inside suspended between a rubber sandwich we have the movement, this combination of parts to the case acts as a Faraday cage making it anti-magnetic and very shock absorbent. An automatic Modified Calibre 11 1/2" BE-36AE, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour COSC certified to ISO 3159 standard, made up of an Anachron balance spring, Nivaflex 1 mainspring with a moulded skeletonised rotor. The watch comes fitted on a 22mm Bremont leather strap with a signed buckle and in the box are two additional 22mm Bremont leather straps, the watch comes with its Bremont presentation box, travel pouch and COSC Certificate.
Personal Note
I suspect this U-22 won't last long as it truly is a great-looking watch from Bremont, but also due to the fact this is an incredible deal with all the extras. If you've been wanting to give Bremont a try, this deal makes it very comfortable to do so in our opinion, so snap it up before someone else does!
The Brand
Bremont was founded in 2002 by the brother's Nick and Giles English. Their watch designs are inspired by their love of flying and everything mechanical. During the 1990s while flying their 1930s biplane over France they got into trouble and had to land in a field. Not wishing to get the authorities involved, they were met by the farm owner who gave them and the plane shelter, it turned out he had flown during the war and was an engineer. The brothers, grateful to the kind farmer, promised him they would never forget him, his name was Antoine Bremont. In 1995 they were involved in an accident and sadly lost their father Dr Euan English while flying their World War II vintage Harvard aircraft. His loss and their injuries drove the brothers to create a fitting legacy. Moving into their Manufacturing & Technology Centre in 2021. Innovation and producing technologically advanced timepieces have been an ever-expanding experience for Bremont. Their military connections through special edition watches and tireless work with Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion means their late fathers' legacy will continue to grow.
