WMT (Watch Experimental Unit) is a Hong Kong-based company founded by Alan Shum. Specialising in customised vintage Rolex homage watches with Japanese movements. Each watch is hand-assembled and given a distressed treatment making it unique. Their online store gives you many custom options creating a watch of your liking.
Taking inspiration from the 1950’s Rolex Milgauss, the watch was designed for professionals to be resistant to high magnetic fields. Its iconic lightning bolt seconds hand, signifying this. Inside a Faraday soft Iron Cage was created and is still used today. Created at the height of the Nuclear age, a time of significant scientific breakthroughs and achievements. WMT has brought back this iconic watch, limited to just 50 pieces. At 38mm polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges. The 15mm thickness and a lug to lug length of 45.5mm give the watch excellent wrist presence. A Brass bezel with 60 minutes silver accents marking the scale. Continuing the vintage aesthetic they used a double-domed Acrylic crystal, above a tropical effect (applied by hand) honeycomb dial. Disc indexes are coated in “aged” Super LumiNova by hand. Faceted arrowheads at 12, 3, 6, and 9 catch the light as you rotate your wrist. Dauphine's hands and the iconic lightning bolt seconds hand have the same applied lume. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an automatic Seiko NH35, 24 Jewels, 21600 beats per hour. The bi-directional Rotor, Seiko calls it the Magic Lever. Hand-winding and hacking. Fitted on a 20mm Stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp.
Points of Mention
This watch is sold with its original WMT box & WMT guarantee card. The watch comes paired with its original WMT bracelet with signed folding clasp, right now the watch only fits a 6 3/4inch wrist but we are awaiting the spare links. The watch is from December 2020 and is in worn condition, but overall very good as you can see with stickers still on. The watch comes with its manufacturer warranty.
WMT has been producing some cracking watches as of late and this is one of them, their sizes are what truly stand out, plus that dial of course. For the money, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better-made homage of the models they are homaging.
