Description

Here we have a robust and iconic 2020 Tudor Heritage Black Bay Blue Bezel 41mm 79230B, presented in "stickered" condition. The Heritage Black Bay is a masterclass in neo-vintage design, drawing heavy inspiration from Tudor’s 1950s divers and was first introduced in 2012. At Baselworld in 2016, Tudor discontinued the 79220 references with ETA movements and replaced them with this in-house 79230 reference. A 41mm brushed-and-polished stainless steel case provides a substantial feel, while a 14.5mm case thickness and a 50mm lug-to-lug length give the watch a bold, modern stance. On the right side, the oversized "Big Crown" is signed with the Tudor Rose and features a blue anodised crown tube. The unidirectional bezel features a matte midnight blue insert and a silver-toned dive scale, providing a cool, monochromatic contrast to the dial. A domed sapphire crystal sits above a matte black dial, which features an outer minute track and applied circular, rectangular, and triangular hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova. Tudor’s signature "Snowflake" hands, a hallmark of the brand since 1969, provide excellent legibility against the dark backdrop. Below the 12 o'clock shield motif, the "Chronometer Officially Certified" text at 6 o'clock denotes the high-precision movement within. On the reverse, a solid screw-down case back protects the COSC-certified in-house Automatic Tudor Cal. MT5602. This high-performance calibre features a non-magnetic silicon balance spring, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with its Tudor "faux Rivet plated" bracelet for a vintage aesthetic, instead secured by screws for easy sizing, 22mm stainless steel Oyster-style with a signed folding clasp and safety fliplock; all links are included.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Tudor presentation box, swing tag and paperwork. The watch comes paired with its Tudor "faux Rivet plated" bracelet for a vintage aesthetic, instead secured by screws for easy sizing, 22mm stainless steel Oyster-style with a signed folding clasp and safety fliplock; all links are included. The watch is from July 2020 and is sold in stickered condition, as you can see and comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

This is one of those watches that was frozen in time. The original owner bought it new, had the bracelet sized, and then simply tucked it away in a safe where it stayed until now. Because of that, it still presents incredibly fresh, with the stickers remaining and very little sign that it was ever truly worn. The blue bezel Black Bay has always been one of the strongest references in the lineup for me. It keeps all the charm of the early Tudor divers, but with the reliability and refinement of the modern in-house movement. Add this watch to your collection today!

About Tudor

The Tudor trademark was first registered in 1926 by the Swiss watchmaking company “Veuve de Philippe Hüther” on behalf of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex watches. Wilsdorf took it over himself in 1936. Just after the Second World War, Hans Wilsdorf, Founder of Rolex, knew that the time had come to expand and give the Tudor brand a proper identity of its own. The Tudor Rose started to appear on their dials from this time. Thus, on 6 March 1946, he created the “Montres TUDOR S.A.” company, specialising in models for both men and women. Rolex guarantees the technical, aesthetic and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service. In 1948, we saw the first Tudor-specific advertising. A few years later, they introduced the TUDOR Oyster Prince in 1952. Hans Wilsdorf allowed Tudor to use their waterproof Oyster case and the original self-winding Perpetual ’rotor’ movement. This was an exclusive arrangement that benefited both brands. Development soon commenced with the introduction of the TUDOR Oyster Prince Submariner, reference 7922, in 1954. This watch was quickly adopted by the French Navy in 1956. Building on its reputation of robustness in 1961, the Rose was replaced by the shield. Later in 1969, we saw the design changes in Ref. 7016, where for the first time, square indexes and angular hands nicknamed “Snowflake” allowed for a greater amount of lume to be applied, and the divers of the French Navy appreciated this. Today, these innovations can be seen in the Black Bay and Pelagos collections. In 1971, Tudor introduced the Oysterdate chronographs nicknamed “Monte-Carlo” due to their resemblance to a roulette wheel. Celebrating their 50th anniversary in 1996. In that same year, Tudor decided to shed Rolex-signed components such as the cases, crowns and bracelets in favour of Tudor-branded ones. Today, Tudor uses their in-house movements developed initially in 2015 in collaboration with Breitling.
