The Watch
Here we have a 2020 TAG Heuer Aquaracer Caliber 5 Black WAY218A.FC6362 with a 40mm black carbide-coated titanium case that curves over your wrist with thick tapered lugs, a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 12mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, we have a signed screw-down crown with deep knurling for extra grip and protection by crown guards. The multi-faceted unidirectional bezel has a black ceramic insert with a 60-minute dive scale deeply engraved. A flat sapphire crystal sits above a dynamic black dial with a horizontal striped pattern, an outer minute chapter ring surrounds applied trapezoid indexes infilled with Super LumiNova marking the hours and at 3 o’clock a framed date window with cyclops magnification on the crystal, steel sword hands infilled with the same luminance complemented by a yellow counterbalance sweeping second hand. At 12 o’clock we have the TAG Heuer motif "Aquaracer" and at 6 o’clock a yellow "Calibre 5" "Automatic 300m/1000ft" completes this versatile sports dive watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with a dive helmet in the centre, inside an automatic TAG Heuer Cal. 5 a movement based on either ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW200-1. The watch comes fitted on its original TAG Heuer 21mm black and yellow fabric strap with a signed push-button released folding clasp and the watch comes with its TAG Heuer presentation box and paperwork.
Personal Note
The TAG Heuer Aquaracer is another massively underrated model in my opinion, perfectly situated between the entry-level F1 range and the Carerra models, the Aquaracer is often overlooked and I feel this needs to change. The value is undeniable for the build quality, design language and brand history, which is quickly agreed upon by most once they handle and experience the Aquaracer themselves, if you are unsure, book an appointment and come see it for yourself!
The Brand
Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. They were featuring many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the full. In 1958 Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1962 the first generation of Autavia was launched. Famously worn in the 1970s by Formula One drivers such as Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi, Clay Regazzoni and Mario Andretti, and many more. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. offered a bid in 1999 that was accepted by TAG Heuer.
