Description

Here we have a 2020 Seiko Prospex LX Sky Limited Edition 45mm SNR049J1, a Limited Edition of 400 pieces, inspired by the unique skyline seen from the International Space Station. A 45mm brushed and Zaratsu-polished super-hard coated Titanium case with numerous angles that play with the light as you rotate your wrist, the case shape sits on the wrist like a cushion, and Seiko gets ergonomics so right, and a lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a thickness of 14.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. Chamfered zaratsu-polished edges lead the eye towards the broad lugs, on the right side at 4 o’clock, a deep knurled crown. The unidirectional bezel has a two-tone black and blue sapphire insert with a 24-hour scale in white numbers and deep knurling for extra grip. A domed sapphire crystal, AR-coated on the inside, sits above a striking gradient black-to-blue dial. An outer minute chapter ring surrounds the 24-hour numerals, and applied, facet-edged baton indexes are filled with LumiBrite to mark the hours. At 3 o’clock, a framed date window, broad hour and slender minute hands expertly brushed and filled in LumiBrite, complemented by a tapered sweeping seconds hand and a blue arrow-tipped GMT hand. At noon, we have the Seiko motif and at 6 o’clock, the Prospex logo, blue GMT, Spring Drive, 10 BAR. On the reverse, a screw-down Titanium case back etched with the details of the watch and engraved with Seiko Prospex logo Limited Edition 400, inside a Spring Drive Grand Seiko Cal. 5R66, the innovative Spring Drive movement which is mechanical, but with an electromagnetic escapement regulated by a quartz oscillator, it has 30 jewels and a power reserve of an impressive 70 hours, its sole power source is a mainspring that drives a series of gears, a rotor connected to the end of these gears generates a small electrical charge that activates an electronic circuit and quartz oscillator, therefore there is no need for a battery. The watch comes fitted on a Seiko 22mm super-hard coated Titanium 3-link bracelet with a push-button signed three-fold clasp: all links are provided, and the watch also comes with its Seiko presentation box and papers.

Points of Mention

This watch is sold with its original Seiko box, swing tag and paperwork. It comes with its original Seiko 22mm Titanium 3-link bracelet with a push-button signed three-fold clasp. The watch is from November 2020 and is sold in worn condition, but overall, very fair condition, as you can see. The watch comes with our 12-Months Warranty.

Personal Note

This is the Seiko Prospex LX Sky 45mm, reference SNR049J1, a limited edition of just 400 pieces and inspired by the unique skyline seen from the International Space Station. Seiko & Grand Seiko always have a fantastic story behind their designs. This is definitely a chunk of titanium on the wrist with a bold design, but it surprisingly works super well. If you are unsure, book an appointment and try it on for yourself, but be warned, you'll likely walk away with it on your wrist!

About Seiko

Seikos history began in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori established the K. Hattori retail and repair store. In 1892 Seikosha was established making wall clocks. 1895 saw the production of their first pocket watch. 1913 saw the launch of their first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1924, the first Seiko was manufactured. Daini Seikosha (now Seiko Instruments Inc.) was established in 1937. Seiko was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 1949. The Suwa factory became independent and formed Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. (now Seiko Epson Corporation in 1959). In 1956, Seiko launched Marvel as their first true in-house-made watch; they continued to make this watch until 1959. Japan’s first chronograph watch was introduced for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics; it was called the Seiko Crown Chronograph mono-pusher. Not stopping there, Seiko launched Japan's first true divers watch, the Seiko Diver’s 150M fitted with the automatic Calibre 6217, which later was given the nickname “62MAS” by collectors. The company name was changed to the Seiko Corporation in 1990. Innovation at Seiko continues today with GPS Solar watches.
