The Watch
Here we have a 2020 Schofield "The Daymark" Automatic ETA 2824-2 made from a single piece of German-made stainless steel that has been vapour blasted to create that distinctive matte finish to the 43.5mm case. Sloping wide screw-in lugs with a lug-to-lug length of 51.5mm and a thickness of 14mm gives the watch an excellent wrist presence. The watch's profile and form sit on the wrist like a cushion. On the right side, a deeply knurled push/pull signed crown. A smooth bezel holds a convex sapphire crystal AR coated with 9 layers to increase its legibility, the sector dial has an outer raised PVD-coated chapter ring with pink anodised containers filled with Super-LumiNova C3 above applied dagger indexes coated in the same luminance marking the hours. An inner minute track surrounds its black centre, a nice contrast, skeletonised ladder-style hands have Super-LumiNova C3 tips and are complemented by a tapered red tipped sweeping second hand complete with lollipop counterbalance. At 6 o’clock a red “Daymark” with “Schofield” curved around the bottom edge. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2824-2, 25 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its 24mm Schofield strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Schofield papers.
Personal Note
Schofield truly is doing things how they want to, for that, they will always have my respect! In an industry that seems stuck on copying the past and copying each other, Schofield truly is a breath of fresh air and I do absolutely love their designs! I personally wish they were a tad smaller for my wrist, but they do wear surprisingly well for their size and I really do believe you've got to come and try it on before you make a judgment on the size!
The Brand
In 2011 at Salon QP in London Giles Ellis introduced the world to his Schofield brand. Based just north of Brighton in Sussex on the south coast of the UK. He is part of the British watchmaking revival.
