The Watch

Here we have a 2020 Oris Divers Sixty-Five Silver Dial Auto 01 733 7720 4051, unveiled in 2015 at Baselworld the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, is a heritage lineup capturing the essence of the original, with the use of modern materials and movements to bring it up to date. Unlike the original, the case size is a more contemporary 42mm, and a lug-to-lug length of 50.5mm and a case thickness of 13mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a screw-down signed crown. The unidirectional stainless steel bezel has a black aluminium 60-minute insert. A domed on both sides sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside sits above a sunburst silver dial with applied disc and baton indexes coated in SuperLuminova, at 3 o’clock we have a framed date window, slender baton hands complemented by a lollipop sweeping second-hand filled in SuperLuminova. Text is precisely printed at 12 “Oris Automatic” and 6 “Water Resistant 10 bar/100m” respectively. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Oris shield in the centre, inside an automatic Oris Cal. 733, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour based on the Sellita SW200-1. The watch comes paired with its original Oris 21mm faux-rivet stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding deployant clasp, all links are provided and comes with its Oris presentation Box & Papers.

Personal Note

This Oris Divers Sixty-Five is cased in the larger 42mm size, yet still fits the wrist beautifully and the added dial real estate only adds to the beautiful monochromatic allure this reference provides! If you have been considering a Sixty-Five for your collection I would not hesitate to add this one to it today, a great price for a great watch!

The Brand

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. In 1982 Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog led a management buyout from Swatch Group. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
