The Watch

Here we have a 2020 Oris Artix-GT Day/Date Automatic 01 735 7662 4154 with a 41.5mm stainless steel case that has brushed and polished surfaces, with angled tapered lugs, for a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side is a screw-down crown. A thin black ceramic 60-minute scale with deeply etched markings and a red inverted triangle at 12 o’clock. Domed Sapphire crystal with AR coating protects the black dial, a white outer 12-hour chapter ring is precisely executed surrounding lume pips and applied polished baton indexes marking the hours. At 6 o’clock day/date windows are stacked for a balanced aesthetic, contemporary design of white numerals against a black background. The handset consists of steel polished hour and minute hands filled with Super Luminova, along with a center sweeping second's lollipop hand. On the reverse a screw-down mineral glass exhibition case back showcasing an Oris Cal 735, an automatic movement, based on the Sellita SW200-1. The balance has a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, and the movement contains 26 jewels, the screw-down exhibition case back shows off the characteristic red balance weight that Oris has become well known for. The watch comes paired with its original Oris 21mm 5-link polished and brushed stainless steel bracelet with a signed folding clasp, all links are provided and comes with its Oris presentation box, swing tag, and papers.

Personal Note

This Oris Artix-GT Day/Date in 41.5mm is a reference I have owned multiple times over the years, first owning it as my first Swiss watch! It ticks all the boxes, especially for the price and is built incredibly as you'd expect from Oris. But the best part is the price, value for money is undeniable, so snap it up and add it to your collection!

The Brand

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog headed a management buyout from Swatch Group in 1982. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
