The Watch

Here we have a colourful collaboration with The HourGlass, 2020 Nomos Tangente Red Dot Singapore 164.S10 Limited Edition of 100 pieces. The Hour Glass is one of Asia's largest luxury watch groups with over 50 boutiques across the Asian Pacific, they are authorised retailers for Rolex, Patek, Hublot, F.P.Journe, Omega, Tudor and TAG Heuer. A curvaceous 37mm polished stainless steel case sits on your wrist with the signature thin angled drilled lugs leading to a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of just 6.5mm ensuring a comfortable fit. At 3 o’clock a signed polished crown with a coin edge for grip. A smooth polished bezel holds a flat sapphire crystal over a delicately pink hue Salmon dial, an outer minute track has plots at the hours with the characteristic Tangente numeral and stick indexes marking the hours. Its Bauhaus-infused aesthetic is pleasing to the eye. Thin stick hands thermally blued after being heated to 290c, sit above a small seconds register at 6 o’clock with a concentric circular pattern and on the edge a “Red Dot” which is a nod to Singapore's nickname “Little Red Dot” as this is how it is shown on a map. Its simplicity and elegance make this watch stand out from the crowd. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back, inside a manually wound Nomos Cal. "Alpha", 17 jewels, beating at 21,600 beats per hour, decorated beautifully with Glashütte stripes and thermally blued screws, features their in-house “Swing System” Escapement which was first introduced at BaselWorld 2014. The watch comes paired with a 20mm leather strap and polished signed pin buckle, and the watch comes with its Nomos presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

When I think of Nomos my mind automatically goes to the Tangente and the Club, these models epitomise their design language as a brand and have become well-regarded and respected among the collecting community. This specific model is the wonderful Nomos Tangente Red Dot Singapore Limited Edition of 100 total, reference 164.S10, rarely do they come up for sale so I would highly recommend acquiring this one whilst you can!

The Brand

Nomos was founded in 1990, just after Germany’s reunification happened with the fall of the Berlin Wall and the USSR collapsed. Based in the Glashutte region, it takes inspiration from the Bauhaus design movement. To have Glashutte on the dial, Nomos has to meet stringent quality standards. They must create at least 50% of the watch calibre in Glashutte to receive the title of being a true Glashutte watch. They only use in-house manufactured movements built up to 95% in the region, surpassing that requirement.
