The Watch

Here we have a 2020 Ming 17.06 Slate Dial Automatic that comes from the same stable as the highly respected GPHG 2019 Horological Revelation-winning 17.06 Copper. Its 38mm round stainless steel case is highly polished with brushed flanks leading to the characteristic outward-facing curvaceous lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a 10mm thickness ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side a signed push/pull crown with deep knurling for extra grip. A flat sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides for great viewing angles. Its slate dial is multi-layered with the printed numerals in the familiar Ming font on an outer ring of sapphire crystal giving the illusion that the numerals are floating, coated in Super-LumiNova C1 for a distinctive green hue. In the centre, we have a disc that began as a piece of brass that is etched with this mesmerising swirling three-dimensional pattern which is then anodised to give it this rich dark colour. The finely Ming sculptured hands are coated in the same  Super-LumiNova C1. On the reverse, screwed in case back, engraved with the model details, inside an automatic ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with its 20mm black Alcantara leather with blue stitching, handmade by Jean Rousseau Paris and the watch comes with its Ming presentation box, travel pouch and paperwork.

Personal Note

I have been fortunate enough to have sold multiple Ming watches over the years and I have to say that the 17.06 is one of my favourites with that beautiful, yet subtle, pattern in the middle which elevates the simple design in my opinion. The proportions on the wrist are always fantastic, with the short lugs making it wearable on almost any sized wrist comfortably. I would not hesitate to add this reference to your collection if you have been considering a Ming for a while, you will not be disappointed.
