Laco was founded in 1925 by Frieda Lacher and Ludwig Hummel in Pforzheim, Germany under the name Lacher & Co. Towards the end of WW2 the RAF bombed the city devastating the businesses and homes of the population. Under the USA “Marshall Plan” the city was able to rebuild itself and Laco built a 5 story factory that specialised in pilot watches. In 1961 the company was sold to Timex and managed to survive the Quartz crisis of the 1970s today still produces pilot-themed watches.
Here we have a 2020 Laco Augsburg Blaue Stunde 42 Pilots Watch with a sandblasted 42mm stainless steel case. Inspired by their pilot watches of the past. It is the quintessential German Flieger pilots watch. Flat ended lugs with a lug to lug length and a case thickness ensures a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a domed-style crown with deep knurling for extra grip. A flat sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside sits above a black dial. An outer minute track coated in C3 SuperLumiNova with large Arabic numerals. Large Sword hands coated in C3 SuperLumiNova complemented by a tapered second hand. A broad arrow with the double pips sits at 12 o’clock completing this classic pilot's watch. On the reverse a snap-off exhibition case back. Inside an Automatic Laco Cal. 21 which has a base of the Miyota 821A movement. The watch comes fitted on a 20mm Laco Grey NATO strap with a signed buckle. The watch also comes with its Laco presentation box and papers.
Value for money... That's all I really need to say with this watch as everything else speaks for itself! Where else can you turn for a "Pilot" watch for this price, that's automatic and from a brand that actually has real-world history within the Pilot watch world and far beyond? Just snap this up.
