This watch is sold with its original Glycine box and paperwork. The watch comes paired on an original Glycine leather strap with its signed buckle. The watch is from July 2020 and is sold in worn condition, but overall very fair and close to new condition as you can see from the photos. The watch comes with our 12-Months NON-Waterproof Warranty.
The Watch
Glycine is a brand that has been around for a long time, since 1914 (A rough time to start a company) but is most known for their Airman series which debuted in 1953 which was designed for pilots with useful GMT functions.
Our 2020 Glycine Airman Base 22 Purist GL0202 has a 42mm stainless steel case. Polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp edges. A lug to lug length of 50.5mm and a thickness of 11mm gives the watch an excellent wrist presence. On the right side, a crosshatched screw-down crown. At 4 o’clock a second crown that locks the friction fit bezel in place. The bi-directional stainless steel friction fit bezel has black 24-hour deeply engraved numerals. The flat sapphire crystal sits above a silver dial. This is a true 24-hour watch with the hour hand sweeping the dial only once per day. Therefore at noon 12:00, the hour hand points directly down, and at midnight 24:00 the hour hand points straight up. Pilots found this very useful as they were used to reading time in this way. Many pilots in the Vietnam war adopted the original Airman. An outer 24-hour chapter ring with the minute track underneath. At 3 o’clock a date window. The arrow hour hand and the sword minute hand are complemented by a reverse lollipop sweeping seconds hand, coated in a cream luminescence. Text is precisely printed. On the reverse, an exhibition screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2893-2, 21 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its Glycine 22mm leather strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Glycine presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
The Airman is a fantastic watch for the money and Glycine has really nailed it over the years, especially when you take a look back in time and see some of the originals and how they have developed, keeping the same core design DNA and functionality, they got it right! Plus having a true 24-hour watch is a fun thing and makes you double-take when checking the time, but at the same time makes you appreciate the watch more and feels as if time slows down...
