The Watch
Here we have a 2020 Farer Charlton GMT, Charlton Way is one of the three roads surrounding Greenwich Park in London, it is here that you find the Royal Observatory, the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). The 41mm 316L Marine Grade stainless steel case uses the same case as their Chronograph Sport line, lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence, brushing across the case is well executed. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown with a bronze cap. The bi-directional stainless steel bezel has a 24-hour two-tone dark and light ocean blue anodised aluminium insert with large engraved numerals, a domed sapphire crystal AR coated on the inside sits above a striking sunburst ocean blue quadrant dial. An outer minute track has thick baton indexes with a large arrow at 12 o’clock coated in SuperLumiNova, and at 6 o’clock a date window. Baton hands coated in SuperLumiNova complemented by a yellow arrow point sweeping second hand and large red arrow point GMT hand. Text is precisely applied to the dial. On the reverse, a screwed-down exhibition case back, inside an automatic Sellita SW330-1, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, the movement is decorated in perlage and the skeletonised rotor is a nice touch. The watch comes fitted on its 20mm Farer 3-link brushed stainless steel bracelet with a fliplock folding deployment clasp, all links provided plus an additional 20mm Farer blue leather strap with a signed buckle, and the watch comes with its Farer presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Farer is a fantastic value brand new, so when they become pre-owned they are stupendous value for money! If you've been considering trying out a Farer for a while now, this is your chance to save some money and get a very great example with both the bracelet and the blue leather strap!
The Brand
In 2015 Farer, an independent British watch brand was founded by Stuart Finlayson, Jono Holt, Ben Lewin, and Paul Sweetenham. Operating out of Ascot, Berkshire in the UK. All having a passion for watches, their first creations were 9 quartz watches. In 2016 they launched three automatic watches naming them after British Royal Navy ships. Building on this success in 2019 they released two land speed record-themed watches and later a collection of chronographs.
