The Watch

Here we have a beautifully sculpted 2020 Chrono Tokyo Hajime Asaoka Bullseye 37mm CT004S; Hajime Asaoka, a true craftsman, was accepted in 2015 as the first non-Western member of the AHCI, the Association of Independent Watchmakers; he launched in 2018 an affordable line of watches under the Chrono Tokyo brand name for the Japanese domestic market through the TIC TAC retailer. The 37mm high-polished stainless steel case curves over your wrist with a lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm, ensuring a comfortable fit. Taking its design cues from the Art Deco timepieces of the past. On the right side is a domed crown. The polished smooth bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal, giving the illusion of the plexiglass crystals of the past above the attractive Bullseye field grey dial. An outer minute track in orange is precisely printed, and a black ring with white Arabic numerals marks the hours. Sculpted polished Chrono Tokyo hands complemented by a tapered teardrop balanced sweeping second hand finishing this elegantly understated vision of Japanese creativity and sensibility. The orange brand motif is found at 12 o’clock with Automatic at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a solid screw-down case back with the brand motif and details of the Hajime Asaoka designer and produced by TIC TAC engraved into it, inside an automatic Miyota 90S5, 24 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour; this movement is part of the high-grade Miyota family with hand winding and hacking for your convenience. The watch comes paired with a black 20mm Chrono Tokyo 20mm leather strap with a pin buckle and also comes with its Chrono Tokyo presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

This early Chrono Tokyo Hajime Asaoka Bullseye features the most incredible dial which begs to be seen in direct light, the lacquered finish shines beautifully giving the dial a subtle and dark brown tone, beautifully executed and a clear example of which this brand has taken off as it has with collectors. At 37mm it will wear beautifully on most wrist sizes, a nice universal size most can get behind, especially for a design like this. Do not hesitate to add this rare gem to your collection today!

The Brand

Chrono Tokyo was founded by Hajime Asaoka in 2018. He is a Japanese watchmaker, one of only two members of AHCI (AHCI — Académie horlogère des créateurs indépendants). Academy of independent watch artists, since 2015. Renowned for very low production handcrafted watches that sell for upwards of £120,000. He decided to offer a more affordable timepiece that has the same DNA as his more bespoke watches. Each watch is offered in limited numbers, and in this case, the watch was offered for only 10 minutes and was immediately sold out. Production is controlled through Precision Watch Tokyo Co.Ltd, the very same company that Hajime Asaoka uses for his handmade creations.
