The Watch

Here we have a 2020 Brew Retrograph “Teal'' Dial Chronograph with a 38mm square cushion case, during the 1930s a particular chronograph was produced which had markings at the 3-minute mark on the sub-dial and was nicknamed “Telephone Timers' due to the fact that after 3 minutes you had to put another coin in to continue the call. Brew has adapted this timing method to highlight the optimum extraction time for the perfect espresso with a time ranging from 25 to 35 seconds which is dependent on the type of machine you are using. The case sits flat to the wrist towards hooded lugs, and a lug-to-lug length of 41.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm ensure a comfortable fit, polished and brushed surfaces transition with crisp lines. The soft rounded edges remind us of the watches of the 1970s. On the right side, we have the chronograph pushers slightly recessed and a signed crown in the centre, a flat slightly raised sapphire crystal sits above a “Teal” sunburst dial. An outer 60-minute and seconds scale in white C3 SuperLumiNova dots and slim baton indexes mark the hours, and at 6 o’clock a framed date window. At 3 o’clock a 45-minute register with a “white” hand and numerals and at 9 o’clock a small seconds register with a “Teal” hand and white numerals. The long white baton hands are complemented by a “Teal” tapered chronograph hand. The blend of funky colours and recessed registers makes this contemporary bicompax chronograph stand out from the crowd, at 12 o’clock we have the Brew motif and at 6 o’clock “Retrograph”. On the reverse, a screwed-down case back with horizontal patterning and the Brew logo embossed in the centre, inside a Hybrid VK64 Meca-Quartz made by Seiko Instruments. Part of the hybrid mechanical quartz (meca quartz) movement line, it is a chronograph movement that uses quartz technology for the main operation and functions of the watch and a mechanical module for operating the chronograph, it gives you the snapback of a mechanical chronograph and the accuracy of quartz. The watch comes paired with its quick-release Brew 20mm leather strap with a signed buckle and a 20mm stainless steel “beads of rice” bracelet with brushed and polished edges and a hidden deployment, and the watch comes with its Brew presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

This is one of those watches that just keeps on giving, first thing that you will be drawn to is the teal dial, its vibrant and when the sun hits it, it's truly incredible! Then the case shape and how that wears on the wrist, super comfortable and unique, would sit nicely in most collections as most won't have a watch anything like this! So snap this up whilst its available, perfect affordable summer watch!
