The Watch

Here we have a 2020 Aquadive 100 Poseidon GMT Yellow Limited Edition of 300 pieces, a meeting of two diving iconic names, Aquadive who in the 1960s introduced the first 1000m rated watches that included a built-in depth gauge and Poseidon Diving Systems who introduced the first single hose regulator and a sealing system used in cold water diving. The 43mm C-shaped stainless steel case made in Germany has chamfered edges that are polished with brushed flanks, a lug-to-lug length of 50mm and a case thickness of 14mm giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed dual gasket screw-down crown. The 120-click unidirectional stainless steel bezel has deep knurling for extra grip and a black ceramic dive insert with engraved SuperLumiNova numerals, perfect for timing dives and decompression stops. A flat sapphire crystal is double AR coated sitting above a black dial. An outer yellow 24-hour chapter ring surrounds baton indexes coated in SuperLumiNova marking the hours, at 3 o’clock a date window, slender sword hands are complemented by a tapered sweeping second hand and a yellow GMT hand. Text at 12 o’clock with the Aquadive motif, at 6 o’clock “1000m/3000ft Automatic” and at 9 o’clock the Poseidon Diving Systems logo, complete this rugged travellers tool watch. On the reverse, a dual gasket screw-down case back with the engraved details of the watch and the Poseidon logo in the centre, inside an automatic ETA Cal. 2893-2, 21 jewels, beating at 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes paired with its original 22mm Yellow ISOfrane rubber dive strap and comes with its Aquadive presentation box, Poseidon patch, Aquadive papers and CD.

Personal Note

This watch really does feel like a tool on the wrist, a real dive-watch! Aquadive seem to be finally getting the well deserved attention among collectors, I would go as far as to say they are built just as well as Doxa yet demand a far lower price on the secondary market! This means its a great time to snap up a model like this Posedon GMT, under £1,000 if a no-brainer!

The Brand

Aquadive was founded in the 1960s at the height of sports diving. Their watches were sold next to the dive suits and proved popular and were also worn by Mercury astronaut and US Navy SEALAB aquanaut, Scott Carpenter. In 1970 they introduced the Time-Depth “Model 50” at 47mm, 20mm thick it was a huge watch of its day and still would be today! An Oil-filled depth gauge was incorporated and a Dynatron electronic movement was used which was cutting-edge at that time. Sadly during the 1970s and 80’s “quartz revolution”, the brand closed down. But in 2011 Rick Marei, an avid dive watch collector revived the brand. They are now part of the SYNCHRON Group which also owns ISOfrane and Tropic strap brands.
