The Watch
Edouard Heuer founded The Heuer Watch Company in 1860 in St. Imier, Switzerland. Chronographs have been the mainstay for Heuer and later TAG Heuer. They featured many models and configurations, expanding the possibilities to the full. In 1958 Jack Heuer, Edouard’s son, joined the company. In 1963 the first generation of Carrera was launched. Singer made the dials, and Valjoux made the movements just like the Daytona. The name Carrera comes from Carrera Panamericana, a legendary race across Mexico. In 1999 TAG Heuer accepted a bid from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A.
Here we have a 2019 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Alec Monopoly. This collaboration shows off the New York street artist work, famously creating artwork satirising financial institutions. The 41mm brushed stainless steel case curves over your wrist for a comfortable fit. A lug to lug length of 46mm and a thickness of 11.5mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a signed screw-down crown recessed between crown guards. A black PVD brushed unidirectional bezel has a 60-minute scale in silver. The sapphire crystal sits above the colourful dial. An outer 60-minute track is printed in white numerals. Alec has used the monopoly money randomly placed on the dial alongside Mr. Monopoly and his masked persona. Dripping Alec in yellow, blue, and red paint across the dial. Long flat-ended dauphine hands with luminescent tips complemented by a tapered second hand. Text at 6 o’clock printed in silver. At 3 o’clock, a date window. On the reverse, a screw-down case back with Alec Monopoly signature engraved into it. Inside a Swiss Quartz movement. The watch comes fitted on its 20mm Tag Heuer rubber strap with a signed buckle. Comes with its Tag Heuer presentation box and papers.
Personal Note
A real marmite watch if there ever was one, for those who don't know or understand Alec Monopoly I suspect this will be an instant "No." However, for those who are fans of Alec Monopoly and like what he does and stands for, this is a real treat and something very different, it sure is in the vein of Alec Monopoly, there are no questions about that.
