Montblanc has been famous for its fountain pens since 1908. Their involvement in watch manufacturing didn’t happen until 1997, when Montblanc Montre S. A. was created in Le Locle, Switzerland, an area with a long and dynamic history of watchmaking. Minerva, based in Villeret, has a rich history dating back to 1858. Richemont bought this distinguished company in 2006 and later renamed it the ’Institute Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie’. Immediately Montblanc rebranded Minerva to Villeret. The manufacturing facility in Villeret has introduced a diverse collection of watches, including many complications such as mono-pusher, chronographs, and tourbillons. Since 2015 Davide Cerrato has been the managing director of their “watch division”. He brings with him experience from Panerai and Tudor where he was in charge of marketing design and product development.
Here we have a 2019 Montblanc Heritage. First introduced in 2019, at the SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) one of the world's largest trade shows in watches and jewellery. This collection was inspired by the Minerva watches of the 1940s and 50s. The 40.5mm highly polished stainless steel case gently curves over your wrist with elegant tapered lugs. A lug to lug length of 47,5mm and a thickness of 11.5mm ensures a comfortable fit. On the right side is a signed crown. The thin polished bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal AR coated. A rich salmon dial has a precisely printed raised 60-minute chapter ring with red numerals every quarter of the hour. Raised black rhodium-coated Arabic 12, 3, 6, and 9 indexes with raised dots in between sit inside a sandblasted ring adds dimension and interest to this simple but classic dress watch. Elegant facet edged dauphine hands with lume infill are complemented by a delicate tapered thermally blued sweeping second hand sitting inside a sunburst centre that plays with the light as you rotate your wrist. Text is precisely printed at 12 and 6, respectively. On the reverse, a screw-down stainless steel case back with a deeply engraved representation of the Minerva facility in Villeret. Inside an Automatic MB 24.26 with its base, the Sellita SW240-1, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. The watch comes fitted on its Montblanc 20mm alligator skin strap with a signed buckle and also comes with its Montblanc presentation box and papers.
