The Watch

MING is a collective formed and fully funded by six enthusiasts from around the world. The founder is Ming Thein, a photographer, designer, and business strategist. They all have a love for watches based in Malaysia.

Here we have a 2019 Ming MOD 19.01 with a 38.5mm Grade 5 Titanium case. Brushed and polished surfaces transition with crisp edges. The scalloped lugs have a lug to lug length of 42.5mm and a case thickness of 10.5mm for a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side, we have a deep knurled signed crown with an embossed “M”. The concave highly polished bezel holds a double boxed sapphire crystal AR coated above a deep blue sapphire fumé dial. The deep blue center becomes translucent towards the edge showing the movement below. A luminous ring of SuperLuminova surrounds the unusual dial giving a Tron-like light show. At 12 o’clock we have the characteristic “0” with round-edged skeletonised segments marking the hour positions. In the center, skeletonised hands have lume tips that give the same blue hue as the outer ring. The “MING" logo is found at 6 o’clock. On the reverse, a screwed-down sapphire exhibition case back showcasing the incredible skeletonised Manually Wound Schwarz-Etienne for MING Cal. MSE100.1 Schwarz-Etienne has skeletonized the bridges and given the movement an anthracite finish. It is built in a modular form which can be utilised exclusively with MING on future watch designs such as a micro-rotor or even a tourbillon by removing one of the spring barrels. The two spring barrels provide a 100-hour power reserve. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm leather Jean Rousseau in Paris quick-release strap with a signed buckle, an additional 2 Ming straps are provided and the watch comes with its MING presentation box and papers.

Personal Note

I wish we could wear this watch in reverse as that movement is absolutely stunning, that is in no way an insult on the dial, just look at that movement and you'll get exactly what I mean! When this was released it was a bold move by Ming and it did very well, on the secondary market it still is relatively a great value in Ming's world when you take a closer look at the % they usually increase from retail!
