The Watch

Here we have a 2019 Glashütte Original SeaQ Black 1-39-11-0680-70, the watch is inspired by their Spezimatic Type RP TS 200 dive watch of 1969. A 39.5mm stainless steel case has polished and brushed surfaces that transition with crisp edges, a subtle curve with a lug-to-lug length of 47mm and a case thickness of 12mm ensuring a comfortable fit on your wrist. On the right side is a signed crown. A unidirectional dive bezel has a black ceramic insert with white Arabic numerals and a lume-filled triangle at 12 o’clock. A boxed domed sapphire crystal is AR coated sitting above the high gloss black dial. An outer minute track with thickly applied Arabic and baton indexes coated in “Old Radium'' Super-LumiNova provides the look and feel of the original. At 3 o’clock a framed date window. Arrow and sword hands are coated in the same "Old Radium" Super-LumiNova and complemented by a red sweeping second hand. Text is expertly executed on the dial. On the reverse a screw-down case back with 20 waves representing the 20bar water resistance and a Trident with the double G engraved into it. The watch has been rigorously tested and complies with ISO 6425 and DIN 8306 diver's watch standards. Inside an automatic Glashütte Original Cal. 39-11, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, this in-house movement is similar to their 1969 original but with a date and hacking functionality. The watch comes fitted on its original 20mm Glashütte Original bracelet with polished and brushed surfaces, the button release deployment clasp has an easy-to-use 8-step fine adjustment diver extension and also comes with its Glashütte Original presentation box, travel case, swing tag and paperwork.

Personal Note

As a huge fan of Skin Divers this Glashütte Original SeaQ is big winner in my eyes and offers something beautifully different in the world of dive watches, especially from a German manufacturer and the bracelet is amazing! Then there's the value which is undeniable, especially when compared against RRP. I wouldn't hesitate on this one if you are interested!

The Brand

In 1845 Ferdinand Adolph Lange established his workshop in the German town of Glashütte. Glashütte (Sa.) limited company was registered in 1918, producing pocket watches in 1921 with the words, “Original Glashütte” on the dial. In 1927, this company would become known as UROFA, producing movement blanks or ébauches. At the same time, a second company, UFAG, built and distributed watches. It was at the same time that the name “Glashütte Original” first appeared on the dial of a wristwatch. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe became Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe GmbH. In 1994, a Bavarian businessman, Heinz Pfeiffer took over the business and brought back the name “Glashütte Original”. This company was ultimately sold to the Swatch Group in 2000. Today, Glashütte Original, under the ownership of the Swatch Group, produces some exquisite timepieces.
