The Watch
Doxa was established in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland, by Georges Ducommun. In 1921 Doxa became the supplier of dash clocks to Bugatti. In 1925 Georges became the vice president of the Swiss Horology Society. 1936 saw Georges's passing, and the company was now in the hands of son-in-law Jaques Nardin the grandson of Ulysse Nardin. In 1944 the company was renamed “Manufacture des Montre DOXA”. The company was finally sold in 1997 to the Jenny family, transferring their headquarters to Bienne, Switzerland.
Here we have a DOXA Sub 200 first presented at BaselWorld in 2019. It was created to celebrate its 130th anniversary. It is also limited to 130 pieces, this one is number 40. Its 42mm tonneau stainless steel case has polished and brushed surfaces with bevelled edges. Tapered lugs with a subtle curve provide you with a comfortable fit on the wrist. On the right side, is a screw-down signed crown. A unidirectional bezel has a dive insert Super‑LumiNova luminescent coated. The domed sapphire crystal has a curvature reminiscent of the plexiglass crystal of the past. It has an AR coating for perfect viewing angles. The black dial has applied baton indices marking the hours, coated in Super‑LumiNova. At 3 o’clock a date window. Broad steel sword hands have segments covered in Super‑LumiNova. The orange centre seconds hand has a square counterbalance, adding a pop of colour to the dial. On the reverse, a screw-down case back. Inside an Automatic ETA 2824-2, 25 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour. Doxa decorates it. The watch comes fitted on a 19mm stainless steel “beads of rice” bracelet with brushed and polished finishing.
