Conceived in New York and Swiss-made, this rare archive-inspired piece pays homage to the brand's visionary founder with an Art Deco aesthetic straight from the 1920s. The distinctive 32mm rectangular stainless steel "tank" case curves over the wrist with sweeping flanks. Its polished edges lead to a lug-to-lug length of 45.5mm and a case thickness of 11mm, delivering a highly sophisticated, formal wrist presence. On the right side sits a simple, signed crown, while a curved sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating spans the fixed bezel. Beneath the crystal lies a striking blush salmon sandblasted dial, surrounded by an outer minute track and detailed with painted Art Deco Arabic numeral markers to denote the hours. At 3 o’clock, a date window sits neatly framed, swept over by retro-styled hands and a slender sweeping seconds hand. At noon, the vintage font displays the 'Bulova' motif, complemented by “Automatic” below it and "Swiss Made" at the bottom. On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back reveals the automatic Sellita Cal. SW200 movement. Operating at 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour, this modified engine features a custom-designed rotor bearing the Joseph Bulova signature and the date "1875". The watch comes paired with its original Bulova 20mm black leather lizard-grain strap, finished with a customised signature interior lining and secured by a push-button deployment clasp. At 32mm wide and 45.5mm lug-to-lug, this is a little bigger than I would personally choose for a Tank-style watch, but it still wears incredibly well thanks to that curved case and general profile. Bulova Company was founded in 1875 by Joseph Bulova. Based in New York, they moved to 580 Fifth Avenue in 1920. In 1923, Bulova Watch Inc was introduced. 1927, on the rooftop of 580 Fifth Avenue, he set up an observatory to be able to precisely determine the universal time. In 1941, Joseph Bulova decided to increase his company's reach by utilising television advertising, producing the world’s first television advert. It was the first time that commercial advertising was allowed on US television. He developed standardised watch production and was the first to create a fully electronic watch using tuning-fork technology. Bulova has collaborated with many people and organisations, including Lindbergh and NASA. During the very first moonwalk, a Bulova timer was placed in the Sea of Tranquillity. The company was bought by Japan’s Citizen Watch Company in 2008.
