The Watch
Bremont is one of those brands pushing the boundaries with design and quality; this watch is another great example of that! The 43mm case is made of Custom 465 Stainless Steel; developed for the Aviation industry, it is a super hard alloy created in a double vacuum, and its properties include scratch and corrosion resistance. This watch has the Trip-Tick shock absorber system around its centre. A lug-to-lug length of 52mm and a thickness of 14mm gives the watch an impressive wrist presence, and on the right side at 4 o’clock, a signed screw crown with a unique integrated crown guard mechanism protecting it. The thin bi-directional bezel has a 60-minute black sapphire insert. A sapphire crystal protects a crisp white dial. An outer minute track with lume plots surrounding Arabic numerals indices black marks the hours. Between the 4 and 5, you find a colour-matched date window. Slender sword hands complemented by a tapered second hand with a tip derived from the Boeing logo coated in luminescence. On the reverse, an exhibition case back with the Boeing motif showing off the automatic Bremont Cal. 13 1/4” BE-36AE a COSC Certified movement, 25 or 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour, based on either a Sellita or ETA movement. The stunningly decorated movement has a Boeing blue rubber anti-shock mount. The watch comes fitted on a 22mm Bremont Seattle black polymer strap with contrasting blue stitching, a signed buckle, and an additional unused strap in the box. This watch is sold with its original Bremont box, spring bar tool, and paperwork, including a signed Warranty card by Nick and Giles English.
Personal Note
With all the dramatic changes happening at Bremont and retailers closing their accounts completely, I feel collectors are going to start appreciating some of their older designs and important collaborations much more. Just like this Bremont Boeing Model 1, a fantastic watch on the wrist and the design is fantastic. I also suspect you could say the same about Boeing as I just said about Bremont, which only makes this all the more interesting to me. I would not hesitate to book an appointment to see this one on your wrist for yourself!
The Brand
Bremont was founded in 2002 by the brothers Nick and Giles English. Their watch designs are inspired by their love of flying and everything mechanical. During the 1990s, while flying their 1930s biplane over France, they got into trouble and had to land in a field. Not wishing to get the authorities involved, they were met by the farm owner, who gave them and the plane shelter; it turned out he had flown during the war and was an engineer. The brothers, grateful to the kind farmer, promised him they would never forget him; his name was Antoine Bremont. In 1995, they were involved in an accident and sadly lost their father, Dr Euan English, while flying their World War II-vintage Harvard aircraft. His loss and their injuries drove the brothers to create a fitting legacy. Moving into their Manufacturing & Technology Centre in 2021. Innovation and producing technologically advanced timepieces has been an ever-expanding experience for Bremont. Their military connections through special edition watches and tireless work with Help for Heroes and The Royal British Legion mean their late fathers' legacy will continue to grow.
