The Watch

Here we have a 2018 Oris Divers Sixty-Five Automatic 01 733 7707 4065, unveiled in 2015 at Baselworld the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, is a heritage lineup capturing the essence of the original, using modern materials and movements to bring it up to date. Unlike the original, the case size is a more contemporary 40mm, and a lug-to-lug length of 47.5mm and a case thickness of 12.5mm give the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side is a screw-down signed crown, and the unidirectional stainless steel bezel has an aluminium 60-minute black insert with silver numerals and markings. A double domed sapphire crystal AR coated on both sides sits above a two-tone blue dial with characteristic hour numerals and markings coated in light old Radium SuperLuminova for that vintage aesthetic, and an inner minute track has at 6 o’clock a date window. Steel sword hands are complemented by a lollipop sweeping second-hand coated in matching light old Radium SuperLuminova. Text is precisely printed at 12 o’clock Oris motif "Automatic" and 6 o’clock "Water Resistant 10Bar/100m" completes this vintage-inspired dive sports watch. On the reverse a screw-down case back with the Oris shield in the centre, inside an automatic Oris Cal. 733, 26 jewels, 28,800 beats per hour based on the Sellita SW200-1 with hacking seconds and quick-set date. The watch comes with its Oris 20mm 3-link brushed stainless steel rivet-style bracelet and a signed push-button release deployant clasp, all links are provided and come with its Oris presentation box and paperwork.

Personal Note

If you know me, you'll know I am a huge fan of Oris and what they have done with their diving range, offering the modern diver with the Aquis and the heritage diver with this amazing Sixty-Five model. This specific 40mm model features one of the best dials of the lot in my opinion, a subtle blue contrasted beautifully against grey, it works with the exploded art-deco style numerals and the overall design. I would not hesitate to add one of these to your collection.

The Brand

Oris was founded by Paul Cattin and George Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein.  They bought a factory and signed a contract with the mayor in 1904. Initially making pocket watches in 1925 they started to add bracelets to their pocket watches which soon transitioned into the wristwatch. By 1929, they had a total of six factories. At the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1.2 million timepieces a year. In 1982 Dr Rolf Portmann and Ulrich W. Herzog led a management buyout from Swatch Group. Unhappy with the way the Group was running things. Oris SA was born as an independent Swiss watch brand. 2002 saw their distinctive Red Rotor become an Oris registered Trademark.
