Here we have the 2018 Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Moon Retrograde Calendar, released at BaselWorld in 2017, featuring a 43mm round stainless steel case that curves over your wrist with finely tapered satin-brushed and polished flat-ended lugs. Its sculpted, polished and satin-brushed flanks lead to a comfortable lug-to-lug length of 50.5mm and a case thickness of 14.5mm, giving the watch an impressive wrist presence. On the right side, a signed, domed, coin-edged crown sits prominently on the case. Recessed pushers are used to adjust the various complications. A domed, smooth, polished bezel holds a domed sapphire crystal AR-coated above the stunning Opaline white dial. A sandblasted silver ring decorated in “clous de Paris” features a blue outer minute railroad track that surrounds Roman numerals marking the hours, at 2 o’clock we have the retrograde power reserve and at 10 o’clock a retrograde date, each is beautifully executed in sandblasted silver and blue with guilloché in the centre, when the hand reaches the end of its travel it jumps back to its start position. Elegant facet-edged diamond-cut blue hands sit majestically above a Moonphase and Day subdial, decorated in sandblasted silver and blue with guilloché in the centre. Inside the subdial, we have the Maurice Lacroix motif completing this stunning Masterpiece. On the reverse, a screwed down sapphire exhibition case back engraved with the details of the watch around its edge, inside an in-house automatic ML Cal. ML 192, 59 jewels, beating at a leisurely 18,000 beats per hour.  It comes paired with its 21mm Maurice Lacroix leather strap and signed push-button deployant buckle. The Maurice Lacroix brand was launched in 1975 by Desco von Schulthess in Zurich. Desco, founded in 1889, are better known for their Silk trade business. They branched out in the luxury watch market in 1946, representing brands including Heuer and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Desco was integrated into the DKSH Group in 2008 when the group took over the majority shareholding of Maurice Lacroix and its watch manufacturing facility in Canton Jura.
